Poem 78: School Starts

It is now Labour Day and school starts tomorrow

Will it be a day of triumph or will it be a day of sorrow?

Parents are conflicted on what to do or say

Send them to their classes or learn online and stay?

Not a situation that all of us have to choose

If everything goes alright, no one will have to lose

So many kids affected and no real plan in sight

Guidelines are certainly out there but will they do it right?

Social spacing to be enforced and masks to be worn by most

Each region has their own rules and vary from coast to coast

Let’s face it, it’s an experiment in process all the way

If things don’t turn out, some people will have to pay

Students along with their teachers are literally putting their lives on the line

Most people seem optimistic since the cases are now on the decline

I can’t see how they will keep all these rules in effect

Children keeping their social distance is a lot for anyone to expect

How are you going to control their movements once their class is let out?

How are they going to stop the elementary students from running all about?

Teachers are asking for smaller classes to ease the lack of space

Premiers in most Provinces are reluctant to put this rule in place

Ford in Ontario is having trouble and has told his educators “to get in line”

It didn’t come out as an order, it sounded more like a whine

He then started to plead with them and try to make their union look wrong

He brought up all the essential workers’ contributions and wanted them to go along

Keep in mind, how volatile contract talks went with Premier Ford

But there he is trying to shame them and telling them to get on board

It’s no time  to try and flex his muscles or antagonize them one little bit

If he doesn’t watch himself, he could find himself in some more deep shit

These instructors are now putting themselves in the line of fire

A predicament that no one in their right mind would desire

They have to take command of this plight and try to rein it in

With no real strategy and not knowing where to begin

It only makes sense that they should be stressed out with this endeavor

The challenge is to keep everyone from harm with no plan whatsoever

Each human that goes through those doors is rolling the dice each and everyday

So the leader of this Province should be alert to what they have to say

You can sit in your office and stay there safe and sound

Meanwhile in a crowded classroom with their students is where the teachers can be found

One germ flourishes and a hot spot could appear

Then it will be time for the Premier to get things into gear

So don’t be berating these professionals and play your stupid game

Because if one case of Covid 19 erupts, the people of the Province will have you to blame

Poem 77: Kenosha

How many more images will have to appear?

Videos we watch have now made it perfectly clear

That some policemen will gun down black lives without a second thought

You wonder how many have succeeded without being caught

The latest examples show that they don’t seem to be worrying in the least

No wonder there are so many of these victims are now deceased

George Floyd was suffocated by this same group who were sworn to protect

This incident doesn’t seemed to have deterred them as they continue to disrespect

Just three months later, Jacob Blake is shot in the back

All done at close range and with no signs of attack

This man took seven bullets in all but he isn’t dead

Unfortunately he is now paralyzed from the waist down instead

His three young children all witnesses in this ordeal

Imagine the hurt and the trauma that they will have to feel

The man who shot him has still not been charged with any crime

They say this investigation is going to take up quite some time

Protests in Kinosha, Wisconsin have been initiated as a result of this terrible event

Two more people were killed at this rally that the police chose not to prevent

A civilian militia group rolled in from out of state

As far as the local officers were concerned, they thought this was great

There is footage of them praising this bunch and giving them supplies

Before this night was ended, they were in for a surprise

More blood would be shed before this evening was done

These out of towners would murder two and then injure one

Kyle Rittenhouse, only seventeen years old would be charged with this terrible sin

It would not be until the next day when he turned himself in

There is video showing his hands in the air as the police force goes by

Not one of these officers bothered to stop and arrest this young guy

This boy was able to walk down the street armed with a semi automatic gun in his hand

Why this man was not picked up and booked, I can’t understand

These circumstances just don’t seem to make any sense

He killed two people as a result and is going to claim self defense

It’s funny how this white man could walk through this protest while carrying a gun

If this happened to have been a black man, his life would have been done

Federal agents have been sent into this city to assist

Trump is planning to arrive there on Tuesday, I guess he couldn’t resist

This circumstance seems to fit into his political game

He will accomplish his goal by applying gasoline to this flame

This to him is a plus and certainly not a minus

By focusing on this, he is able to draw the news away from the virus

He is manipulating all these events so they all go his way

He will continue with all this stupidity right up to election day

Don’t be fooled once again by this pathetic buffoon

His term in this office can be definitely ended soon

Division and chaos will continue as long as he is here

Vote Joe Biden into office and this will all magically disappear

Poem 76: Conventions

Donald Trump is down to seventy two days if everything goes right

Then Joe Biden will take the oath of office in January, the future does look bright

The Democratic Convention was a huge success and was enjoyable to view

The Republicans start their own tonight, who knows what they will do?

Joe Biden wants unity to return and to bring back the country’s pride

I’m assuming Donald will continue on his conspiracies and his ability to divide

The Republicans, like the Democrats, will be covered each and every day

So for the next four nights their every move will be there on display

Everyone should have an idea on what kind of fight that lies ahead

Friday morning we will know everything that both parties have done or said

It will be interesting on how these coming four will turn out

At least then we will know what both parties are all about

I don’t see any real big changes happening to their campaigns as the race goes on

I just hope when the final votes are tallied, Donald Trump is gone

The President’s plan is to make Biden look stupid and too old to adequately fill the spot

From what I seen in Joe’s speech on Thursday, I think it’s a foolish plot

Imagine Trump trying to make himself look smarter than this experienced man

We really know who the moron is, please don’t deviate from your brilliant plan!

Trump won’t have his rallies that are there to cheer his every word

How will he deliver his speech if there is no clapping to be heard?

He says he wants to do it live and not recorded like his opposition

Let’s see how his oration goes when he is finally put in that position

The Democrats four days went pretty smooth and Biden’s speech really sealed the deal

Will Donald be up for the challenge or will he lose even more appeal?

When this convention ends this week, the real battle will ensue

There will be some nasty skirmishes before this election is finally through

“When they go low, we go high”, is Michelle Obama’s famous quote

It will be hard to honour this credo until the final vote

They are running against a man who has no scruples and only utters lies

Trump will do anything to win, this certainly is no surprise

I think if the Democrats toe the line and stay on their destined route

We will see Joe in the office and Donald escorted out

Once in office, Biden will have to do everything he can

To correct all the wrongs of the world that were accomplished by this man

Who knows how many years it will take to eliminate Trump’s historic stain?

Is there enough diplomacy available to obtain respect again?

Poem 75: Race Is On

Late Saturday night, the news reported that Robert Trump had died

The question that I hate to ask is, do you think that Donald cried?

You see I have never seen an ounce of empathy oozing from this man

Does he actually feel compassion? I don’t think he really can

The only person he has concern for is him and only him alone

This is how he operates, his past history has clearly shown

He doesn’t care what rules he breaks or how many lies he has to say

The only thing that concerns him, is that things must go his way

I don’t know how things will go when his family is forced to reunite

I wouldn’t think that everything will end up going right

I can see Mary having a signed copy of her novel for each one in the clan

With Donald fuming in the corner, obviously not her favourite fan

Is there a possibility that he would try to sneak a look?

I don’t think this would happen, he’s probably never read a book

He said that his late sibling was a friend to him as well

This was probably the only one he had as far as I can tell

Sure he has all his cronies at his beckon call

These men are just as selfish and aren’t really pals at all

I’m wondering if this death is an inconvenience for this man in power

The things that he is trying to incorporate can change from hour to hour

He is handling this pandemic beautifully is what we hear him say

Yet there are still thousands of people dying each and every day

He’s now running his corona briefings as a solo act

The information he’s relating is seldom filled with facts

He’s saying mail in ballots should be stopped because they are fraught with fraud

That Democratic cities are filled with crime and wants to send in his private squad

He tells the mayors that he will clean their cities and it will take less than an hour

He thinks that he is a king and controls all the power

He has his own man he picked at the post office in the driver’s seat

He has him slowing down all the services which should help him from defeat

There is no depth that this man will not go to, to win at any cost

If you have no shred of dignity, you have nothing that could be lost

To be honest, I am going to watch this man at the funeral and when he does appear

I am going to look straight into his eyes and see if he sheds a tear

I am willing to bet he won’t sob in front of any other

I think he could do the eulogy without once mentioning his brother

Because he’s missing his rallies, his tribute could go off the rails

He could make it all political but hopefully decorum will prevail

The road to the November election is going to be quite a ride

Hopefully Biden and Harris will win it all and restore the Country’s pride

Trump is capable of anything and will stop at nothing to occupy this  space

Hopefully when all the votes are finally counted, he ends up in second place

Poem 74: Playoff Run?

This NHL experiment finished just last night

The final teams have qualified whether you think it’s wrong or right

Now we know who the sixteen teams are in this playoff run

We will all be into October before this season is finally done

The Canadiens and the Blackhawks both finished in twelfth place

They however, both won their series and are now in the playoff race

Toronto, Pittsburgh, Florida and New York are the teams that didn’t pass the test

Edmonton, Nashville, Minnesota and Winnipeg are the losers in the west

Players like Crosby, McDavid and Matthews, just to name a few

Are players that I would have liked to watch, but they didn’t make it through

The rest of the playoffs are all set up to resume

The first game commences at three pm, tomorrow afternoon

Four games are to be played each and every day

This will continue until a team gets eliminated along the way

So fans can now get their fill of this sport that they have missed so much

Keep up with their favourite players who have seemed so out of touch

The qualifying rounds were exciting and I hope this trend will stay

I’m hoping the players can stay healthy and are able to go all the way

Will my Blackhawks be able to beat the Golden Knights?

I don’t think they can do it but I hope they put up a good fight

How about the Canadiens, will they be spoilers twice?

Anything is possible when your goalie is Carey Price

I don’t know if there are any more upsets in store for us to see

The fact that we get to watch some more hockey is happiness to me

If you are a serious fan, you should be able to catch all the games in store

They have them all spaced up for your viewing, who could ask for more?

Of course, it’s the playoffs and who knows how long a game could be?

Better have them programmed to record so you’ll have them all to see

Now we will all feel spoiled and will try to make up for the time we lost

Let’s just enjoy this game while we can and keep our fingers crossed

This is not a for sure scenario and things could blow up in our face

This pandemic could affect the outcome, hopefully that is not the case

My wish is that everything will run smooth and things do finish up

With the Canadiens and the Blackhawks in the finals for the Stanley Cup

Poem 73: Sports Leagues

So are you sold on this sports experiment that’s under way?

We now have a choice of sports that we can watch everyday

So far hockey and basketball are looking good under their bubbles

However, major league baseball is having their share of troubles

Players on the Cardinals and the Marlins have tested positive and the season is in doubt

That’s two strikes against them: one more team and they’re out?

The CFL has chosen Winnipeg as its hub city, should it return in the fall

Chances are Canadian Football will not have a season at all

The NFL is a whole other case

Their players are testing positive all over the place

Lots of these athletes are bowing out for this reason

Who knows how many stars will play if they do start the season?

All the NHL players are safe and there are no cases to report

I hope this trend will continue and the season doesn’t fall short

I like the format they are using to get into the playoff run

If they would have left things as they were, my team would have been done

My Blackhawks would have been out of it , they finished in twelfth place

Now they get to play a best out of five to enter the playoff race

Their last appearance in the playoffs, they lost in four straight

They’ve won their first game, which really is great

Are they in a position to topple the Edmonton Oilers?

Now this is just the first game, are they going to be spoilers?

With Connor McDavid as the Captain, this team is never out of the game

It’s nice to know the Hawks have won one, just the same

This means at least in this series they will not be shut out

The fact that they are competitive is what it’s all about

There is so much hockey to be played before they call it a year

Here’s hoping that every player continues to play and is able to stay in the clear

Every major sports organization will have their share of wins and defeats

When it comes to reality, it’s the Covid-19 Virus that we all have to beat

Poem 72: Men At Work?

“You can’t fix stupid” is a phrase that comes to mind

This can be applied to many politicians: They really aren’t that hard to find

They used to be so vigilant on what they do or say

Now we are able to watch these total screwups each and every day

Thanks to social media, we get to catch them in the act

This in turn gets forwarded to millions before they are able to react

This gives us a reality check by seeing who’s really wrong or right

And it gives us further evidence, that most of them aren’t that bright

Why would the Governor of Georgia sue the Mayor of Atlanta one would have to ask?

Because her worship mandated her constituents all to wear a mask

To me it seems that it makes common sense to protect her people there

Kemp, in public, wears a mask, so obviously he’s aware

You see the President is working behind the scenes and pulling all the strings

Keisha Lance Bottoms is a Democrat which is not Trump’s favourite thing

There were other cities in the state that implemented this, weeks before

You see they don’t have a woman in charge which aggravates this leader even more

Then you go take a look at Florida and Ron DeSantis is the man

You thought you couldn’t find anyone more dopey? Hold on, yes you can!

This is the brainiac who let the state run free

Then he rubbed it in everyone’s face for the whole world to see

Now some weeks later, his territory has the most pandemic cases nation wide

Seems like the Governor chose to lay low and find a place to hide

Recently, he reemerged and showed how intelligent he could really be

By uttering a response for everybody live and on tv

This statement was so ridiculous and there’s no way he can escape

He basically stated that gym members can’t catch the virus because they are in such great shape

These are just a few examples of the men who run the show

Throw the President in with these two, you have Larry, Curly and Moe

These are just three of the stooges that are running the United States

The rest of them aren’t much brighter by just sitting around in wait

Meanwhile so many innocent people are dying each and every day

This POTUS has no empathy and there is no hope in him leading the way

The rest of his party are accomplices and criminals at large

It’s time to stop this comedy of errors and finally put someone in charge

Poem 71: Molly

The story begins almost six years ago on an October morn

I was on a site on the internet our neighbour called “puppy porn”

The ones that have the young doggies for sale and have their pictures on display

We were both able to avoid all these temptations until this particular day

It had now been two years since we had to put our old dog “Stan” to rest

He was such a loyal dog and to so many people, he was just the best

But after dog sitting for some friends just the week before

We both seemed to get the itch and couldn’t hold out anymore

That morning we saw the pictures and both agreed on that special one

Then we both hopped in the car and our new journey had begun

Before we reached our destination, we decided one puppy would never do

When we finally arrived, we decided we’d bring home two

We picked out a pair of puppies and had an overnight stay

The plan was to stay in this hotel and pick them up the next day

The owner’s words disturbed us and truly made us frown

When he said “he was getting rid of the mother or going to put her down”

This statement really bothered us and we stewed on it all night

The fact that he was going to get rid of the mother we didn’t feel was right

So the next morning we did take home two dogs, the mother and a son

I can still picture them running around the yard, they always seemed to have so much fun

Six years have now come and gone and these two have never been apart

Yesterday we had to put Mother “Molly” down, it truly broke our hearts

We took the puppy with us so he could say goodbye

He was there to witness her passing as we all petted her and cried

He was nose to nose with her when she met her end

Now we are left to mourn but still have one furry friend

How he will react to this separation? In the next few days we’ll know

This is an experience this dog as a puppy should have experienced years ago

He has no idea how lucky he has been to have been with his mother all these years

The thought of them being unconnected brings us all to tears

So goodbye Molly, we will miss you and take care of your little one

Hope you are now free to roam and are finally able to run

Fate was the reason that you were initially attracted to my wife

This enabled all of us to hopefully give you a better life

With all these words I’ve written I hope that they will convey

We are going to miss you “Molly Girl” each and every day

Poem 70: Coping With Covid

Has the carona virus still got you stuck at home and feeling bound?

Want to visit all your friends but they still can’t come around?

Maybe you miss them so much and a you feel a simple call is not enough?

Missing all the members of your family and really feeling rough?

This is the scenario that appears in most people’s heads

What if the thoughts you have take a one hundred and eighty degree turn instead?

What if you are a confirmed introvert and you’re finding the times aren’t so rough?

What if you are relishing all this social distancing and still can’t get enough?

What if you are enjoying all this isolation and are basking in the glory?

You’re not required to visit friends and family and don’t feel the least bit sorry?

What if you like the fact that people aren’t just dropping in to say hello?

That you haven’t had to count down the minutes until they had to go

What if you don’t like the fact that social distancing is just six feet?

What if you just wanted to avoid all these people and just choose to cross the street?

Maybe in your situation, as family goes, you don’t rate in the top dozen?

You might have made the list, but you got edged out by a cousin

What if the fact that expanding your social circle you are dead against?

What if you like the fact you can pick who you want and the hell with all the rest?

What if you wished someone in power, we all know this guy

Would get infected by this disease as a lesson but didn’t want him to die?

What if you like the fact you can purchase all your items without even having to open a door?

Get all your packages loaded when you park in front of the store

What if you like the fact you don’t have to rush to clean your mess?

You know that no one is going to drop in so there is no need to stress

What if you like the fact that you have no schedule that usually gets in the way?

What you didn’t accomplish you can try to do the next day

What if you like the fact that this has been going on for a while?

What if you like the fact that this could become everyone’s lifestyle?

What if your tv viewing includes Prime, Netflix and Crave?

This just shows you’re prepared in case there’s a second wave

What if you are watching the news like you never did before?

Following all the same stories all day long and still thirst for more?

What if I ran out of “what ifs” and all the words that I find to rhyme?

Would you think that reading this poem was a complete waste of your time?

So hats off to all us introverts who seem to be handling this crisis better than most

As you know we don’t like a crowd and seldom do we get a chance to boast

Our advice to all you extroverts is to try and relax and do your best to chill

Hope you get through this ordeal safely, I know my group certainly will

Poem 69: South Dakota

July fourth is Independence Day in America each and every year

But Trump, in all his glory decided July third would be the day he would appear

The Black Hills in Keystone, South Dakota was the place he chose to be

Start the night with his divisive speech and then fireworks for all to see

Mount Rushmore National Memorial would be the backdrop for his talk

Seems so fitting because like the four Presidents behind him, his head is also made of rock

Ignoring all the warnings of this virus, he packed the people in

The so called “left wing mob of protestors” was his topic to begin

An executive order for a “National Garden Of Heroes” to be built made his biased crowd roar

Basically it would be a theme park commemorating the racists and the traitors of the civil war

He is still more concerned about these statues than the lives that are being lost

He is going to keep his home base happy, no matter what the cost

Imagine these people believing that he could make this all come true

The promise of a Mexican paid border wall was something he never managed to do

He wants a ten year minimum sentence for all the protestors who made these statues fall

I guess his plan is to go around the whole country and try to convict them all

Meanwhile the policeman who actually killed and tortured, he holds in high regard

He has no empathy for the lives that were taken and all the families that were scarred

Getting back to his executive order for this “so called” garden he named

We can collect all these statues in one place where they all can be ashamed

If you are in favour of this park, please write them out a cheque

But heed the words of warning:  “You Might Be A Redneck”

I think it only fitting that some statue of Donald should be there as well

To all of his worshippers, he’s a hero, put it up, what the hell

Let him pick the wall to surround this park and let him have his way

Make it a shrine to him and put some likeness of him in there to stay

Hopefully his popularity will continue to plummet and everything will turn out right

He will lose his reelection bid and this park will not come to light

Once he vacates his office, the charges that were held will now be enforced

He will have to stand for all these charges, he and Melania will probably be divorced

Chances he will be convicted and be sent away for a while

Locked up in those handcuffs and sent to prison right after this trial

So many people will be watching when he finally takes his fall

There he will finally be mounted, probably in the shower stall
