Poem 88: Reality Does Suck

First let me state something that isn’t a lie

A fact that historians cannot deny

Donald Trump got more votes as an incumbent in any Presidential race

Thank God for all of us that he still ended up in second place

This means come January twentieth, hundreds of men and women will now be unemployed

Those poor fact checkers who tracked all his lies that kept us annoyed

For the past four years they have been working all day and night

What are they going to do now that Trump’s out of sight?

Joe Biden has won and is now the President elect

Something that the present occupier is choosing to neglect

He’s refusing to accept the outcome and now says he won’t go

I will try to put things in a context that he really should know

Let’s see he had Kanye and Kim visiting him in the west wing

So we all know that reality shows are his favourite thing

Using this premise, perhaps maybe his mind will begin to bend

Perhaps in this way Mr. Trump will finally comprehend

Think as if you are in the “Big Brother House” and watched as you move about

Then now think of “Survivor” and the “Tribal Council” has voted you out

This is as simple as I can put it as even you will be better able to see

I will now try to explain how the rest of your life could eventually be

I look at the group that people call your Presidential core

There are some members who could be extras on “The Jersey Shore”

I hope they are still loyal when you finally leave this place

I could bet you money they will all disappear without leaving a trace

You are now exposed and won’t be able to pardon yourself

It will be interesting to see how you are going to maintain your wealth

I know there is a lot owing to someone who invested in you

Bad Boy Bad Boy whatcha gonna do?

When you go bankrupt will they rename your resorts?

Perhaps your case can be heard in “The People’s Court”

I’m sorry the show is done and Judge Wapner has died

Is there another venue where you can be tried?

Lucky for you and your lawyer Rudy

Your case will be tried by “Judge Judy”

There she will control you and prevent you from going into your rants

And also keeping your lawyer from putting his hands down his pants

Now that your life has now gone from bad to worse

Your ever faithful wife will now file for divorce

Now you are single “The Bachelor” you certainly won’t get

But don’t count out Melania as the next “Bachelorette”

Your family will be devastated “There’s no money in the will”

Maybe they can have group therapy on “Dr. Phil”

Sorry to tell you but your case didn’t go very well

You tried to run but “Dog The Bounty Hunter” put you back in your cell

Don’t worry about anything even though outside you are a menace

There are plenty of people inside prison that would make you their “Apprentice”

Your room won’t be private so you aren’t the only one there

The toilet won’t be golden and you will all have to share

The surroundings, I have to tell you, will be all gray and drab

And there definitely will be no pussy for you to grab

You were finally convicted of tax fraud as well as being a sexual abuser

Congratulations Donald Trump, you are now “The Biggest Loser”

Poem 87: Count Them All

Someone was smiling on Tuesday night

The man was ahead with no one in sight

You see he was winning the race and was number one

In fact early Wednesday morning he was declaring that he had won

He believed he was the champion and he couldn’t ask for more

He beamed ear to ear as he looked at his score

I guess he didn’t realize he was at the beginning of a marathon run

Declaring himself as a winner was jumping the gun

So many more ballots to be counted just didn’t seem right

His next appearance wouldn’t occur until Thursday night

He got in front of the world and pleaded his case

Throwing out so many conspiracies, a total disgrace

He wasn’t happy and wanted all the counting to come to an end

You see this President was at the beginning of a downward trend

The first votes that were counted were from the actual election day

The absentee and mail in voting was set out of the way

So his loyal followers listened to his sage advice and voted in person

That’s why what started so right would just slowly worsen

He had all he needed on Tuesday and once again broken the blue wall

But look Mr. President you have to count them all

This election is dragging out and is now in day four

I really don’t know if I can take any more

It seems like a bad habit and I just can’t seem to kick it

Imagine what it’s like for the candidates who have their name on the ticket

I know I was worried when I saw how much Trump was in the lead

I honestly thought it wouldn’t be long before Biden would concede

Now it’s Friday and things are going Joe’s way

It started last evening and it’s continuing today

They are now tabulating the votes that were once set aside

Donald sure must not be enjoying this ride

Turned on the television and couldn’t believe it was true

The States that were once red are now solid blue

Biden now has enough to win the big prize

After watching so long I’ve come to realize

Everything looks great and perhaps Trump won’t be able to defend

I’m hoping things stay the way they are until the bitter end

Poem 86: Changing Times

I am composing this poem on Sunday November first to be precise

As I look out my window, the weather isn’t at all nice

I thought I would take advantage of that extra hour that we gained overnight

Use this extra time to sit down and write

Last night was Halloween and we put some treats out

Due to the virus there were not that many children about

After much debating we cancelled it all before it could start

But it turned out yesterday at noon we both had a change of heart

So my wife and I proceeded to decorate for this event

When we looked at the results it was time that was well spent

I really can’t take any credit because it was all her call

By the end of the evening we only had about ten kids in all

Once the last child left, she took everything in

Then we stowed them in the basement in their special bin

So now I’ve had some cereal and am sipping on my cup of tea

There’s nothing on television right now that I wish to see

Not so much on this morning but in the afternoon I certainly will

I have an appointment at one pm to watch my Buffalo Bills

Football is the only sport we can watch it would appear

Baseball is over and the NHL doesn’t start until next year

The NFL has had their share of  problems but so far so good

They have a long ways to go, so they are not out of the woods

The Superbowl is now so far away

Will they crown a champion? It’s hard to say

So last evening was supposed to be our night of fright

We all know that this will be happening on Tuesday night

That’s when the American’s election will be on full display

Who’s going to win it all? It’s hard to say

Biden has the edge if you are to  believe in the polls

Trump is not buying into it and thinks they’re on a roll

Remember the last one when Hillary was supposed to have ascended

You shouldn’t need to be reminded how it finally ended

I’m just hoping that Biden will be declared a winner before I head to bed

But I will probably be too excited to sleep knowing that Trump’s reign is dead

It would be so nice to live without Donald around

Regaining the feeling of being safe and sound

Knowing that Biden will tackle the virus just like we heard him say

Let the experts tackle this pandemic and not get in the way

The only reason this can come about

If the Americans are smart enough to boot Donald out

I’ve put my clock back one hour now that my poem is done

As I look at the time, I finished this entry before it begun

Poem 85: Prevention

You think you have a case of the Monday morning blues?

Guess what was the first thing both of us decided what to do?

Woke up after eight o’clock which for me is somewhat late

My wife and I already made arrangements for this particular date

There was still snow on the ground from the night before

Which somehow seemed so appropriate for what we had in store

This has been a regiment that we have chosen to adhere

It’s a ritual we perform each and every year

The time was actually ten to eleven when we would be seen

This was allotted to us to get our annual flu vaccine

We made our appointments conveniently done online

After having these injections, we both are feeling fine

In our particular demographic, this year, it is all the rage

Something that most of us participate in when we reach a certain age

I am not a golden ager but I admit I am knocking at the door

Because of my particular health issues, I’ve been doing this ten years or more

Over all this time, I heed to my doctor’s instructions and do everything he has said

Who knows what the future has in store for us in the years ahead?

So I am determined to do what’s best for me and stick to this plan

As far as my longevity goes, I will do everything I can

Especially during this pandemic which is powering up once again

You have heard all the procedures, there should be no need to explain

So it only comes as common sense to help prevent the spread

How come so many choose to defy all the solutions instead?

Intent on staying in denial, going on with their lives without any real concern

Disregarding all the experts and ignoring everything that they warn

Choosing not to oblige and simply refusing to wear a mask

Their unwillingness to be receptive to this simple task

Now the experts are telling us we are in the second wave

The more that we cooperate, the more lives we will save

The cases are piling up, the numbers are getting high

Through all this stupidity, so many more will die

I am doing everything I can to stay alive upon this earth

Obviously others don’t value what a life is worth

I am fortunate that I am relatively healthy and actually I feel great

What about our senior folks who are frail and are forced to sit in wait?

Confined indoors hoping they outlast this outbreak

Knowing that their own existence is truly what’s at stake

Enduring this long winter, they will endeavor to stay alive

To receive an inoculation if  they are able to survive

Try to be compassionate and put yourself in their place

Maybe by doing this, the policies you will begin to embrace

We will never eliminate this virus if we can’t collaborate as a whole

It’s time to have some cohesiveness so we can achieve this final goal

Poem 84: Autumn

The autumn colour’s brilliance is slowly wearing thin

The leaves on most of the trees have gone so winter will soon begin

The maple in our front lawn looked so spectacular again this year

Now it just sits so alone and naked since it’s foliage has disappeared

All that’s left are a few stragglers that are blowing in the breeze

They are so persistent in staying while the rest abandoned it with ease

The canopy is gone and I can’t recall when the first leaf fell

But with every one that dropped we became more exposed as well

The shade that it provides keeps us hidden in its summer green

Situated in front of our picture window we remain unseen

There we are free to sit and eat our meals without being seen at all

It in turn keeps the house cool until we get into the fall

As the days get shorter, the sun beams into the house each and everyday

Thanks to mother nature, there is nothing left to block the rays

On those cold winter days we receive the maximum light she can provide

This way we are able to bask in it while staying warm inside

I look into its barren branches and I see an abandoned nest

Left behind from a family of robins that were our summer guests

It’s amazing that it is still intact though it seems so fragile sitting there

Months ago it was so obscured and now is unprotected now that everything is bare

I see the whole neighbourhood now when I look through this glass

Then come to the realization of how quickly this spring and summer have passed

It seems like just a few weeks ago when the crocuses where in their prime

It’s really hard to fathom that we have gone through all that time

I remember being able to count all the blossoms on our young apple tree

Now we are right in the middle of October, how can that possibly be?

I remember our first robin digging for worms on our front lawn

Some of them are still around but most of them have gone

The early morning chorus has deafened altogether

Just another indication of the changing weather

There are really no sounds emanating from any songbird’s mouth

All I hear are the honks from geese who are now all heading south

The degrees are dropping and the furnace has kicked in overnight

These nice warm days we are having will soon be out of sight

We might find ourselves lucky and get a few of them here and there

The fact that winter will soon be coming makes us all aware

So every morning I will open up our curtains and take in our panoramic view

Then look at the thermometer and decide what I shall do

Follow this pattern daily and see what it will bring

Continue it throughout the winter in hopes for an early spring

Poem 83: Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving long weekend comes to an end today

Hope you were able to enjoy the time in your own way

Most people enjoyed their feast on the Sunday night

Hopefully for all involved that everything turned out right

Some families were probably missing a sister or a brother

You probably weren’t required to sit so close to one another

There must have been plenty of leftovers for everyone to share

The fact that the numbers were restricted, there was hardly anybody there

You were supposed to keep your social group intimate and small

Hell some of us decided on not having a big meal at all

These days, the virus has the upper hand

A fact that most of us have had to understand

Getting together with relatives and friends still can be a chore

The fact that the Province decreases our numbers affects us even more

This virus now seems to be on some kind of streak

The number of infections have increased in the past two weeks

Now that the outdoor temperatures are starting to drop we will be indoors

Which means that this pandemic will step up even more

They are predicting that the second wave could take more lives than the first

So if we are not careful, things will go from bad to worst

We have to be diligent and be up for this task

Listen to our health professionals and wear a mask

Maybe it’s time this year whether you like it or not

Head to your pharmacy and get your flu shot

Don’t leave yourself vulnerable to this virus, stick to a plan

Do everything to keep your strength and do all that you can

It is up to you to keep yourself in tip top shape

If you contract it when you are weak, you may not escape

In another couple of months we will be into the Christmas season

That’s why we want to take care of ourselves for that very reason

The way things are going, and I hope that I’m not right

The yuletide this year is not looking all that bright

Another celebration will be ruined by this pandemic once more

The people who eventually succumb to it will tally up a big score

There won’t be the hustle and bustle that you see in that time of year

These people will be doing all their shopping online is what I really fear

Just like this Thanksgiving, the table will be sitting few

There will still be restrictions on what we are able to do

We now have the rest of autumn and all the cold winter to endure

It will not be until the spring that we might just see a cure

I am trying to be optimistic despite these words you read

I am hoping that the scientists are successful and really do succeed

We can wish all we want but in reality things just aren’t fine

We have to heed to all the facts and in turn just toe the line

Yesterday our daughter visited and stayed most of the day

When she got up to leave, we just wanted her to stay

She hugged and kissed both of us before she went out the door

We watched her proceed up the street and still we missed her more

We were so thankful that she stopped in to say hello

We enjoyed every minute of the time before she had to go

That’s why we have to obey all the scientist’s in order to succeed

Getting back in touch with your children is the medicine we all truly need

Poem 82: Antics

Donald and Melania have the virus, apparently they caught it from Hope Hicks

Seven more have contracted it and now you have ten Republicans that are sick

Another twenty four of them were tested but show negative so far

Meanwhile Donald goes out in his motorcade exposing his own bodyguards in his car

A photo-op for his followers so he can sit and wave

With no thought of the two hundred and ten thousand that are now lying in their graves

The doctors treating the President couldn’t be more vague

Trump is trying to paint himself a super hero who has conquered the evil plague

He put out a tweet that he feels great and twenty years younger

The polls are now showing that these remarks could prove to be a political blunder

The numbers have dropped and he has lost more women as a result

The families who have lost loved ones have taken it as a direct insult

Now the Republicans are trying to endorse him because he is now ill

Saying he now knows how to handle this and he has the will

Stating that Joe Biden can’t handle the situation because he hasn’t experienced the pain

They will spin this calamity this way in hopes of winning this campaign

He’s been in Bethesda just five days and says he’s had enough

Trying to say he is okay in an effort to portray that he is tough

He always performs these antics at the ideal time so it will air on the evening news

You know this master mind has planned it all, he never fails to amuse

Last night wasn’t different, another staged affair

Showing him exiting a helicopter and proceeding up some stairs

Continue up to the balcony showing that it was a easy task

Standing at attention, then saluting after he purposely removed his mask

You can see him directing some of the crew but I guess they made a mistake

It turns out the rehearsal went wrong because they had to take a second take

So he walks into the white house without any protection on his face

Shows that he has absolutely no concern for all the workers in the place

Not sure if he will be isolated and put in his own wing

Perhaps he will still be free to roam and just do his own thing

Here’s a man who is highly contagious and yet doesn’t care at all

Surely to the vast majority of undecided, this is a wakeup call

I know he is trying to portray that he beat this nasty bug

As far as his working staff is concerned, he didn’t even shrug

He entered into the White House past all the people there

Showing to all of America that he truly doesn’t care

The polls show once again this morning that Biden’s lead has increased overnight

This whole act Trump performed last night didn’t turn out right

Once again his escapade went sour and he failed miserably in his quest

The only thing that has been positive for Trump these day has been his coronavirus test

Poem 81: Patience

Sitting on the front porch enjoying the weather, it’s nice and warm

Taking advantage of it while we can because it’s the calm before the storm

The leaves, you can hear them rustle because the breeze has picked up a bit

The pet dog is passed out while my wife and I just sit

The neighbour has his radio on and he’s playing some great sounds

Other than our two little groups, there is no one else around

You see we still can’t get together because that virus is still here

We have managed to keep it in check but it spiked again it would appear

So now they have raised the restrictions and the orders have been put in place

That’s why we are sitting on our terrace all alone in our safe space

Schools have started and it seems that they’re the cause of the rise

It seems that this was inevitable, it shouldn’t come as a great surprise

The task of trying to contain this is a no win situation

We have done our best to manage it all across our nation

Compared to others, Canada should be proud of how we are handling it all

We have to maintain this steady pace because we are in for a long haul

The more that we cooperate together, the more lives we will save

We have to be even more diligent if we are to beat the second wave

I know we’ve had enough of this terrible pandemic curse

The experts say that this second installment could prove even worse

This summer has been an experience that we will never forget

This plague is still looming large and is still a major threat

In just two more weeks, we have our Thanksgiving day

Will we be able to gather in groups for this is hard for me to say

For now I will cherish this beautiful day while I am still able

Sitting out close to home is the only thing that has remained stable

No matter what changes have been made to our everyday life

Sitting out here has been a refuge for me and my darling wife

No matter what they say, we can take in the fresh air and enjoy the peace

This late into the year and opportunities like these will eventually decrease

That’s why we are so thankful to have this nice day

We have been out here almost daily since the month of May

If things don’t pan out, we will all be shut ins until the early spring

That’s why each and every one of us can’t give in to this stupid thing

Don’t let it get the best of you for any reason

If you do, it might even ruin the Christmas season

The chances of having a vaccine to cure this to me is very clear

If they do come up with something it won’t be until next year

So for a recap guys, hang in there and stick with the plan

Do what is expected of you and do all that you can

This winter will probably be the longest that you will ever have to endure

Let’s all just pray to God that someone comes up with a cure

As for now, we will be sitting outside enjoying this wonderful day

Hoping that this warm cycle is here to stay

Everyone’s mental health is really what’s at stake

We are determined to stay out here for our own sake

The next season coming is winter, so these nice days are so few

Taking advantage of this mild weather is the best thing we can do

Before you know we will be freezing and covered up with snow

We will be stuck again with Covid-19 and still have no place to go

So if we stay patient and comply with each and everything

Perhaps we will get our liberty back when once again it’s spring

Poem 80: Think

Counting down the days to the US election and you just can’t wait?

Is your selection to vote for President still up for debate?

So you are still undecided on where you’ll mark your X?

Who will win this election is anybody’s guess

What really still baffles me from the outside looking in

Is the fact that this race is still close, it really is such a sin

I sit back and watch the news and can’t believe my eyes

That the incumbent in office is a contender to me is a surprise

A man that has lied countless times and has been impeached as well

Still has a shot at a second term makes me wonder “What the hell”?

He is still catering to his minority because the popular vote wasn’t his to claim

The fact that he could accomplish this again is really quite a shame

This man is not concerned with anyone, except of course, himself

It’s time to chalk this all up to a bad experience and put him on the shelf

Remember before he entered office, how popular your country was?

It continues to lose its credibility with each little thing that he does

He is in awe of all the dictators and Putin most of all

He still hates all the immigrants and still wants his border wall

He continues to defy the virus and still doesn’t wear a mask

However you still have to keep your six foot distance if there is a question to ask

There’s recordings of him saying how dangerous the pandemic actually is

He can’t refute the evidence because the voice is actually his

He knows the actual consequences but doesn’t really care

He said he wanted to avoid a national panic and had chosen not to share

This is the way he wants to spin it, will his lying ever cease?

As for the two hundred thousand that have died, may they rest in peace

He says he loves his rallies because they share his point of view

They sit and cheer on every word he says even though none of it is true

So with his base and Fox News of course, he has a fighting chance

How can so many people be suckered in? Are they in some kind of trance?

Here’s a man who can say anything he wants and they will all sing his praise

These people have gone all full in, unfortunately it’s not some kind of phase

During all his rallies he is on a stage in front of his crowd

Meanwhile his disciples are squashed together while he stays safe and sound

In reality he knows this virus is dangerous and he doesn’t want to be near them at all

You can bet if any of his members get infected, he won’t take the fall

He has heightened up the violence and is counting on his division

The fact that he is promoting all of this should make it easier to make your decision

He says he’s done more for Blacks than Abraham Lincoln in his time

Says he is the law and order President and will stop all the crime

So if he is able to stop all of this, how did it begin?

This violence has escalated since he first got in

Now you have a situation where the tension will only get worse

As long as Trump is in office, he will never change his course

I can’t see him calming down the nation because this isn’t in his game

This calamity will continue without him taking any of the blame

This man has stayed on this path from the very start

This division will become a chasm and really fall apart

The second wave of this virus could begin and pack a powerful clout

Then you will see more deaths and have no way of getting out

Restrictions from other nations will eliminate any chance of Americans visiting there

Mexico and Canada will stay shut and then no one will be able to go anywhere

Finally Donald Trump will accomplish his goal from his command center

Thanks to his incompetence, the immigrants will have no wish to enter

Poem 79: Gloomy Day

It’s early Sunday morning and by all means you can’t say that it is bright

After stumbling around in all this dimness, I’ve decided to turn on a light

It’s after eight already and the rain is coming down

Chances are I won’t be departing for my walk around the town

I think my dog has sensed this as he is laying sprawled out on the floor

Most mornings I have to rein in his excitement which indeed is quite a chore

My whole world has been upturned thanks to this weather change

Sitting quietly in this house now seems a little strange

Every single morning I just grab the dog and go

Most mornings I’m still half asleep and am the one in tow

The walks begin slowly as he is able to sniff everything he can

Then after a few blocks I’m more alert if everything goes to plan

But when days like these happen and I don’t get that early start

I don’t seem to get that burst of energy and just feel like an old fart

So it is of vital importance that I get up and start moving right away

Because if I don’t proceed in this fashion, it will affect my whole day

I’m not feeling optimistic because it’s calling for rain the whole day through

Now that I am imprisoned indoors, I have no inclination of what I should proceed to do

I just finished eating my bagel and drank a cup of tea

I’m now writing this poem on my clipboard crossways on my knee

I could start the third season of a series that I started late last week

I just finished three more episodes last night so I am kind of on a streak

Let’s see, I have eleven more installments and then there isn’t anymore

This way I will have them done before they start season four

I am so lost and confused when I get out of my routine

I don’t know if I really want to devote some more time in front of the tv screen

I am not feeling too optimistic about the NFL and for that very reason

I am a little hesitant on watching the Buffalo Bills first game of the season

I was all for watching the Raptors, but now their season’s done

They did play some exciting games during this playoff run

I am still watching hockey even though my team was eliminated in the second round

With St. Louis out of the race, a new champion will be crowned

Hockey and basketball should finish the season thanks to being under their bubble

As far as baseball and football go, I think they may run into some trouble

When it does come to my priorities, sports just doesn’t seem to rate

To me it’s a pleasant distraction as we all sit in wait

So many things have to be put in order for the benefit of man

Some days I feel we can triumph but on others, I wonder if we can

This virus is still front and center and a hindrance to all

So many people suffering, how many more will fall?

It would be nice to walk along the street without having to dodge here and there

It would nice to enter public venues without a mask to wear

It’s been so long already and our patience is so strained

Since this pandemic first arrived, what have we really gained?

I just want to get back to where we are able to stroll around carefree

You have to ask yourself how much longer could it be?

That’s why it means so much to me to get out for that walk

Even if it means staying six feet apart if you choose to talk

So when I am out and about and there’s a friend I see

Even though I am in the great outdoors, I don’t sense that I am free

This day has turned out gloomy and I will strive to find something to do

Here’s hoping that the near future brightens up for me and you
