Poem 98: Reckoning

It’s just a joke there’s no way he will win

That is the way this story would begin

Experienced lawmakers laughing at him everyday

While Donald flung insults at them along the way

This whole thing is hilarious he hasn’t a chance

But steadily in the polls he continued to advance

Graham and Cruz were also opponents in this race

They both fought back at him and called him a disgrace

The war of insults would finally abate

When Trump was eventually chosen as the Republican candidate

So Donald was now in the driver’s seat

Experts still laughed and said he would end up in defeat

He continued with his name calling during his campaign

“Crooked Hillary” would become his favourite refrain

Rallies are what he lived for throughout his run

He loved the adoration, could say anything and for him it was fun

These were no holds barred sessions and did what he wanted to do

This man would spew out anything and very seldom was it true

Still all the polls showed that he would fall

Yet come November, he won it all

The so called experts didn’t get it right

Donald Trump ended up winning this fight

So what happened to Lindsey Graham and Lyin’ Ted?

They both cowered to this man instead

Mitch McConnell joined the duo to make it three

This is how the party shaped up and how it would be

They enabled their new leader and just put him out there

As long as they achieved their goals they really didn’t care

They backed him up and kissed his ass all the way

Were never deterred on what he did or had to say

Trump continued his rallies shortly after the race

He thrived on all the adoration, it was his happy space

His bigotry and hatred would seem to increase every year

His party was in denial but to the world it was perfectly clear

This man continued his prejudice and refused to stop

He cleared out the streets of Washington for his own photo-op

During the “Black Lives Matter” protest is when he did this deed

Still yet the Republicans endorsed him and did not impede

He brought out the National Guard to enforce his law

The rest of his party chose to ignore what they saw

His “White Supremist” antics were now on full display

His loyal group still backed him all the way

Now a few months later and “The Party of Trump” is starting to squirm

Their heroic leader has failed to win his second term

He’s claiming the election was rigged and refuses to abide

Over one hundred and fourty members have stood by his side

The three stooges, Mitch, Lindsey and Lyin’ Ted

Backed up their leader and let them go ahead

Sixty cases lost and laughed out of every court

Larry, Moe and Curly show him their support

January sixth was chosen to certify the election and get it out of the way

Trump and his supporters had a “Save America Rally” scheduled on the same day

Don Junior, Rudy and the President fired them up with their so called hoax

Then sent them to the Capitol and there was no need to coax

Trump vowed he would join them but of course he never did

These instigators went back to the White House and that’s where they hid

This mob broke into the buildings and put up quite a fight

Trump didn’t call the National Guard because his friends are white

Five people have died as a result from this riot

Trump made a few statements but has been really quiet

There are plans to punish the demagogue and I wish them the best

Somehow I think however, they will fail in their quest

For Mitch, Lindsey and Ted, it was a terrible fright

As a result of being scared stiff they all now see the light

They have condemned the President for the actions he took

I don’t think these three idiots are off the hook

Lindsey ran into Trump’s posse when he left for his plane

The way that they heckled him could drive him insane

These three men could possibly have a target on their head

Choosing to ignore all what Trump stood for they’ll learn to dread

The rest of your lives you will all have to watch your backs

Not know when or if this group will choose to attack

Now Donald, if you don’t get sentenced for all of your crimes

These people who backed you will turn on you in time

Once they get to the realization that you used them and took their money too

There won’t be enough bodyguards to protect you and you know that’s true

So go back to Mar-a-lago when you once felt safe and sound

Not knowing what day on the course could be your final round

Poem 97: Compromise

Whatever the experts profess my wife and I always choose to obey

Lately we have taken social distancing in a different way

We never planned it out intentionally, it just seemed to be the case

How can two people who love each other, not occupy the same space?

You see my wife is on a binge that she can’t really cease

The devotion she has given to it continues to increase

She is now on quite a bender and now three days have gone by

I don’t want to engage with her in this habit and I refuse to try

I admit I have joined her in these escapades once before

I tried again this time, but I couldn’t do it anymore

How long will we be apart? No one really knows

I think there are ninety seven episodes in this particular show

The show is about a virgin, I think her name is Jane

I could be viewing it with her but alas I chose to refrain

I’ve left her in the living room to continue with her addiction

I crawled down in the basement to avoid any unwanted friction

She is now sitting upstairs in the bright lit room

I am forced to the cellar to sit amongst all the gloom

I, being the nice guy have decided to take it like a man

To keep my partner happy, I’ll do everything I can

Now I’m forced to remain in here with the big screen

All in an effort to stay calm and not to cause a scene

So now I am all alone and there is no one else around

Sitting in front of the 4k television listening to the surround sound

That is what I have to endure while I’m stuck in this hole

Friday I had to sit through the Rose and the Sugar Bowl

Saturday I was forced to choose between football and hockey on the air

Does anybody really understand my dilemma? Does anybody care?

Four games of junior hockey is what I ended up getting to see

During intermission I watched some football, how much worse can it be?

Yesterday my Buffalo Bills played and they beat the Dolphins crew

If you were in my position, would you put up with it like I have to do?

I may be stuck in this dudgeon until the junior championships come to a close

While she is able to sit in comfort while watching her favourite show

I got an update from wife, she says she is now into season four

Spoiler Alert: It seems Jane can’t be called a virgin anymore

Not sure how many more episodes are left for her to see

So who knows  how much longer my sentence will truly be

I’ve turned down the gas fireplace and now there’s a chill in the air

I’m just going to leave it that way just to show how I don’t care

I won’t turn up the thermostat, I won’t even venture to try

I’ll just sulk in my recliner and set my electric blanket up to high

I hope to endure this all until everything finally comes to a stop

I must leave you now to get some more chips and then refill my pop

Poem 96: Holiday

Christmas is now over and this dismal year is almost through

The Province is now in lockdown and what will you choose to do?

Will you follow all the guidelines and listen to what they say?

Or just ignore it all and treat it as just another day?

Most will stick to the protocol because they want to do all they can

Some will just continue to deny and just brush aside this ban

Those who oppose it refuse to participate in this fight

Yet they are the first ones to complain when things aren’t going right

The vaccine seems to be the only chance we got

Then you’ll have some people who’ll refuse to take the shot

This coming new year will start off worse than the year before

The cases of this virus will accumulate and soar

Christmas and New Years’ wave will peak early in the next year

Hopefully this will be its final crest before we see it disappear

I venture it won’t be until the summer before things turn around

Who knows how much longer it will be before we’re safe and sound

Because people travelled during this holiday season

The numbers will eventually increase for this very reason

Those who missed their relatives chose to make their trip

A family tradition that they just didn’t want to skip

They were thinking of their kin that they haven’t seen in a while

Wanted to visit them in person and give them all a smile

For some it was a short jaunt, others had to travel coast to coast

Those who did the journey, thought of themselves the most

Disregarding all the caution that’s there in plain sight

Hopped into their cars or booked themselves a flight

Spreading germs to one another as they went along their route

Not concerned with anyone as they went all about

Who knows how many people were infected on their travels

Wait a few more weeks and things will soon unravel

The numbers will spike again and more people will be dead

Just because all these individuals refused to stay at home instead

Still they won’t give a second thought to all of those who will perish

It’s only their own lives that these folks really choose to cherish

Poem 95: In Your Neighbourhood

It’s the winter solstice, which makes it official today

It’s the first day of this season and it’s not going away

Today we also have our longest night

Tomorrow we increase the time of daylight

We got through November with no snow on the ground

Now in our region there is snow everywhere to be found

It’s freezing rain right now which is a sort of reprieve

There’s fifteen centimeters expected on Christmas eve

The day before Christmas, Ford is going to shut things down

The length of the closure will be two weeks in our town

Those who live south of our northern border

Will get an extra fortnight to put things in order

The more the merrier in this case doesn’t necessarily apply

The higher the concentration, the more people will die

The Premier knows exactly what is at stake

There’s talk of them extending the Christmas break

He’s trying to prevent another wave before it can begin

A gamble he is taking and has all his chips in

This lock down will contnue into the new year

Most of us will follow while others refuse to adhere

This holiday season will be one for the ages

Hopefully this pandemic is into its final stages

This Christmas season I am willing to bet

Will be the one that no one will ever forget

With all this snow at least on our block

It gives our neighbours all a chance to talk

When we are digging each of ourselves out

That’s the only time where we are out and about

The weather is usually mild when we receive a big pile

So since we are all out, that’s when we can talk for awhile

Last night we were out for hours in our driveway

Talking to each other, we all had something to say

Satisfied that we all got rid of the snow

The plow then goes by and we all have to go

Instead of getting angry, we all took it in stride

I guess we were all tired of being cooped up inside

Even after all that, my wife decided to play in the snow

She was constructing her snowman and what do you know?

Just when she had the body made and in its place

A neighbour offered her a carrot to use for the face

Another neighbour was dropping off baked goods door to door

Such a variety of sweet goods, you couldn’t ask for more

We may not have a big family gathering this yuletide season

We’ve heard it for months, we all know the reason

It’s time to stick to this plan and get rid of this curse

Don’t buck the system, it only makes everything worse

In our location where we choose to live

We are surrounded by people who love to give

They are all there when you are in need

Or lend you the tools to help you succeed

So if we get all that snow before the big day

It will be another visit that we get to pay

This way we can give best wishes to one another

Like you would if it was your sister or brother

We have become an extended family in so many ways

We still salute all of our essential workers each and every day

The more the flakes fall, the better we all get to know

So in order to keep in touch, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Poem 94: Concede

It’s a refrain that we are forced to hear each and every day

The fact that Donald Trump doesn’t want to go away

He’s convinced himself that he has won the race

Losing is an option that he is refusing to embrace

States that have heard his cases now will total five

He seems to still be ambitious and seems to have the drive

The plan he hatched up months ago isn’t coming through

What’s next on his agenda? I haven’t got a clue

One hundred and twenty six Republicans backed him on his latest trial

Do they truly believe this man, or like him, are they in denial?

Trump believed he would win the race if he got it to the Supreme Court

Assumed the Judges he appointed owed him, and would show him their support

This is perhaps the most important case in history is what this man has tweeted

It was just a few hours later that this case of insanity was soundly defeated

The Judges informed his lawyers to stop these foolish attempts to win

Who knows when this transition of power will start to smoothly begin

Those who back this man still believe that Trump hasn’t lost

The division he has created will come at a great cost

Friday he ordered the authorization of a vaccine by the end of the day

If the head of the FDA didn’t comply he would send him on his way

Now he wants to be front and center now that a vaccine has been found

When you took attendance at the Covid 19 meetings, he was never around

Not taking responsibility for the virus that continues to ravage his nation

Not caring about the people out of work and families facing starvation

Still counting the money that people are donating for his cause

The same people who attend his rallies and smother him with applause

He has them thinking that he will run again in another four years

This money he can really use to get his corporation out of arrears

As long as he has people that are duped by thinking he’s so great

He will take all that he possibly can while they just sit in wait

He will continue on this plan and bleed them all dry

Let them believe the scenario of giving it one more try

Republicans are running scared because he is in control

The base believe that Donald is their heart and soul

They all follow this buffoon like he is their master

The party succumbs to him to advert their own disaster

They will never be able to topple this man from the throne

The behavior that he displays, they will continue to condone

Today is the day that the electoral ballots will be cast

Officially it will show that this President came in last

Joe Biden’s transition into power will continue to proceed

Donald as predicted will deny and still refuse to concede

Trump will persist with his rants and rages

With time his antics will be buried in the back pages

Poem 23: Yes Or No

It’s down to just eighteen days and then we will all see

How many people decided to abide by the Government’s decree

The virus right now is spiking all over the place

It’s time to takes this serious and stay in our own space

Not a time for people to load up the car and head for home

It’s time to hunker down and resist that urge to roam

This Covid 19 is front and center like it’s been almost the entire year

The last thing that is required is having all sorts of visitors appear

Twenty twenty is a year that we will never forget

Don’t finish it off with an act that you will eventually regret

Christmas is a holiday that is appealing to the young and old

Unfortunately this occasion you should decide to put on hold

It’s not a time for us all to gather together as we usually do

So if you decide to ignore the dire warnings the onus will be on you

I know there will be countless families that will not heed the experts’ advice

They will still visit together, ignore it all and just roll the dice

Take a chance and let the chips fall where they may

Decide to congregate together on this Christmas day

This is a gamble that I will choose not to take

I do not wish to put any person’s life at stake

The wave we are in now is still trending high

One has to wonder how many more will die

Getting together just wouldn’t seem right

Especially when a vaccine is in our sight

I would hate to see anyone end up with a case

Now that we are so close to the end of this race

This entire planet has had enough

The past nine months have been rough

Celebrations of any kind have been a thing of the past

But there is a sign of optimism for us at long last

This pandemic could be beaten, there truly is some hope

The next several weeks we will still have to strive and cope

We may be saved from future harm

By taking an inoculation in the arm

We have to all be on the same page, there can be no more confusion

This is the only way we will be able to bring this pandemic to its conclusion

So many have denied this virus and now will ignore the cure

How long will it take to right things? No one can be sure

I can’t wait to see this year finally done

Eagerly anticipating twenty twenty one

Poem 92: Scammed

It’s now been twenty seven days since Donald lost the race

An undisputed fact that he still refuses to embrace

He’s bunkered in his office where he feels safe and sound

He only seems to emerge when he wants to play another round

When he does make his rare appearance, he avoids the reporter’s queries

He’s busy on his favourite networks promoting his conspiracy theories

This way he can spread his lies about the election that he lost

Looks like we will have to endure this until he’s finally tossed

He didn’t like the one question posed to him the other day

He called the reporter a “light weight” and then went on his way

He took the Thanksgiving weekend to promote his baseless claim

The first interview since the election and Maria Bartiromo helped to fan the flames

She basically let him sit back and sing his lame old song

She gave him the forum and helped by urging him along

He still says the election was rigged and Joe Biden didn’t get all those votes

Believes he handled the pandemic great and credits himself for the antidote

Fox news, you see was panicked because their ratings have dropped a bit

When this President started bad mouthing them, they took a little hit

So they just let him loose to spread more propaganda to the globe

She let him say anything he wanted, she didn’t even begin to probe

There you have Trump declaring all this deceit aloud

This must be a time in America where they can all stand proud

They’ve treated this man as a spoiled child and let him rant and rave

This same person who has let your nation send a quarter million people to their grave

A man who has put himself front and center just to fill his purse

When he is finally pried from office you will still be saddled with his curse

Still the Republicans cower from him because they don’t want to rock the boat

Imagine having to stoop this low just to keep your party afloat

They are still bowing to him because he says he will run in twenty twenty four

His influence over their members will continue, who knows what he has in store?

He has people contributing to his cause to fund his fall from grace

He has all these individuals trusting that he indeed won this race

He hasn’t gotten anywhere, his lawyers have been laughed out of every court

But his people still stay in the fight and send their money in for support

He has to drag this out, he needs more cash to attain his goal

He will use all these funds for his businesses, he truly has no soul

This man is financially strapped and is four hundred million in debt

This could be his last con, he needs every cent he can get

Being a second generation grifter he was basically raised to be a crook

He really has performed the biggest scam and you are on his hook

Fourty eight more months of contributions would help to pay his tab

This will go down in history as one of the biggest money grabs

You are probably reading this and think I’m full of shit

You are not believing any word I said, not for one single bit

It’s nice to know that you can distinguish a fact from a lie

Trump is giving you the same menu but you still believe this guy

Poem 91: Mother’s Rant?

I was over at my daughter’s house while she was making a pot of homemade stew

As I looked at all my grandchildren, I couldn’t believe how much they grew

They were busy cutting up vegetables and making dumplings as well

Each of them taking turns with all their stories they had to tell

They poured the contents in the pot and put it on the stove to heat

Let it simmer for a while and then the meal will be complete

We couldn’t leave the house as a result, so we stayed inside instead

The kids then went in to clean their rooms and also make their beds

They asked what they could do for us which I thought was rather nice

They always do what is expected , their mother seldom has to ask them twice

They’re always there in a pinch just to help any way they can

Their mother just adores them, she is their biggest fan

They’ll fall all over each other just to help their mother out

Just keeping her happy is what their lives are all about

She often has to tell them “Don’t pamper me so much, I just want to be alone”

“Can’t you find some games to play or text someone on your phone?”

Look outside your window it is such a nice day

Why don’t you just call a friend and ask them out to play?

I’m tired of you using the vacuum in every single room

Thanks to all your cleanliness, you’ve worn out another broom

You don’t have to clean the toilet after every single flush

You can let it sit for a couple of days, there is no need to rush

The dishes can wait awhile, there’s no need to clean them right away

For God’s sake let them sit awhile and leave them for the day

I swear I’ll buy a dishwasher if you keep these antics up

I’ll fill it to capacity with every single plate and cup

And when it comes to laundry, just let it sit for a day or two

Can’t you find another project that you might want to do?

I’m tired of you doing all these things without having to be told

Can’t you just set some clothes aside that I could wash and fold?

You don’t have to use that iron so much, it gives off so much steam

I’m sure you’re friends won’t talk about you if you have a wrinkle down the seam

Please don’t spend so much time cleaning the tub after every shower

Try to keep the scrubbing down to less than one half hour

Kitchen counters are getting worn down from the cleaning that they get

The dish cloths and towels are so frayed I’ll have to purchase another set

I can’t afford the constant supply of detergents and cleaners that I have to buy

You all have to slow down on your household chores, I know it’s hard, but try

I am so fed up with all this sanitation I just don’t know what to do

I just hope when you have kids, they end up just like you

I talked to her after supper when the kids were cleaning plates

I told her that the supper that they made really turned out great

I told her sometimes kids don’t turn out the way you want them to

Just know that they all love you and you are doing the best you can do

The kids are growing and learning each and every day

Maybe when they finally mature they will see things your way

Poem 90: Essential Workers

We are now in the middle of November and winter is now in sight

The season that all health officials promise will not be all that bright

They are describing it as dark and bleak, that we all will have to endure

Even though they are optimistic that they may soon have a vaccine cure

The pandemic continues, the cases of covid-19 are rising across every land

It’s up to us, it’s time to heed the message and take a global stand

We owe this to all our front line workers who are exhausted from this fight

We are only requested to do our due diligence and just do what is right

There is more than the people who are delivering the mail

There is just so much more that this does entail

Think of all the restaurants that are hanging by a thread

Why not help and order takeout from them instead?

All people in retail that stock the shelves and meet you face to face

Take some time to consider them and put yourself in their place

Would you be able to cope with the thought that you could be exposed?

What if your whole livelihood’s future is on the edge of being foreclosed?

There are so many people that are living on the brink

It’s time for all of us to be more caring and kind, to stop and think

Remember all the people who run your corner store

The ones who work in the delivery service, there’s so many more

People that are trying to keep everything thriving

Trying their best to keep their own businesses surviving

Not to mention all the doctors and nurses and hospital workers as a whole

The ones whose positions are most perilous, God bless their souls

These individuals have been fighting in the trenches for months without a break

Dealing with this pandemic as well as putting all their lives at stake

You see, their numbers have also diminished and have many casualties as well

We enjoyed our summer and autumn while they endure this living hell

I know that we were honouring them each evening by banging on our pots

These unselfish workers have never gotten a break, still giving all they’ve got

I know we think of them as heroes but they are human after all

It’s time for us to pay homage to them as we prepare for this long haul

We have to do what’s expected of us and try to stay on course

Those of us who choose to stray only end up making things worse

The United States numbers are alarming with daily records being broke

Even with hundreds of thousands of deaths some still treat it as a joke

After all the lies he spewed, it will be Trump that will truly disappear

Unfortunately this joyous occasion doesn’t occur until January next year

Biden has promised to take on the fight when he takes over the helm

Meanwhile with Donald in charge the cases will continue to overwhelm

This silent, spreading virus as foreseen is on another roll

It’s time for us to take the initiative to get it under control

This second coming will be more arduous of a task

All that is required of you is just do what is asked

These essential men and women are drained and mentally fatigued

Only by respecting all their wishes will we have a chance to succeed

It may be many months before this promising vaccine will be released

Thousands will catch it and unfortunately end up being deceased

It will never be enough even with all the accolades we send

The only way to celebrate this group is to bring this virus to an end

Poem 89: November 11th

IT’S ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF THE ELEVENTH MONTH EVERY YEAR

A TIME TO REMEMBER WHEN WE ONCE LIVED IN FEAR

A TIME WHEN PEACE ON THE PLANET WAS PUT TO A TEST

WHEN EVIL RULED AND THERE WAS COMPLETE UNREST

THIS WAS A TIME WHEN MEN AND WOMEN FOUGHT THE FIGHT

THROUGH EVERY DAY AND EVERY NIGHT

THEIR LIVES WERE DEVASTATED AND MANY LIVES WERE LOST

ALL FOR PEACE AT A HORRIFIC COST

PEOPLE FROM OUR COUNTRY WHO CHOSE TO DEFEND

OUR RIGHT TO PEACE, UNWILLING TO BEND

NOT GIVING IN TO THE EVIL THAT WAS ALL CONSUMING AT THE TIME

A TYRANT THAT WAS KILLING WITHOUT REASON OR RHYME

THESE PEOPLE LEFT THEIR SAFE HOMELAND TO BATTLE THIS FOE

THEY ENLISTED BY THE THOUSANDS AS YOU AND I KNOW

TO STAND UP FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE WAS THEIR GOAL

THEY WERE PROUD TO BE SOLDIERS:  THEY CHOSE THIS ROLE

THEY LANDED IN EUROPE TO MAKE THEIR STAND

DETERMINED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS FOREIGN LAND

THEY WERE WELCOMED BY THESE PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARRIVED

WITHOUT THESE BRAVE SOLDIERS NO ONE WOULD HAVE SURVIVED

THEIR GOAL WAS TO END THIS GERMAN KILLING MACHINE

WHO WERE LED BY HITLER, A TERROR TRULY OBSCENE

MEMBERS OF THE JEWISH FAITH WERE THE PEOPLE HE CHOSE TO SLAY

THE GAS CHAMBERS HE USED FOR THESE ACTS REMAIN UNTIL THIS DAY

IT WAS DURING WORLD WAR II WHERE THESE PEOPLE WOULD FALL

THE WAR THAT PRECEDED THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO END THEM ALL

WORLD WAR ONE IS SAID TO HAVE DEFINED CANADA AS A NATION

THANKS TO OUR BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION

WE FOUGHT SO MANY WARS OVER THE YEARS

LOST SO MANY LIVES, SHED SO MANY TEARS

CANADA WAS AN INFANT WHEN WORLD WAR ONE BEGAN

WE HAVE BATTLED IN EUROPE, KOREA AND AFGHANISTAN

WE HAVE SOLDIERS BEING SACRIFICED IN THIS MODERN AGE

TO PRESERVE THE PEACE THAT OUR NATION HAS CHOSEN TO WAGE

CANADA HAS GROWN AS A NATION, WE’LL MAINTAIN OUR STANCE

OUR PAST HEROES ARE WORSHIPPED IN EUROPE: REVERED IN FRANCE

THE MAJORITY OF US HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE: NEVER EXPERIENCED WAR

SOME THINK IT AS HORRIBLE AND JUST CHOOSE TO IGNORE

NOVEMBER 11TH  IS THE DATE WE HAVE CHOSEN TO SHARE

TO SHOW OUR ARMED FORCES THAT OUR NATION DOES TRULY CARE

WE JUST CAN’T BE APATHETIC AND NOT HONOUR THIS DATE

FOR ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT REACHED THEIR GRIM FATE

TWO MINUTES OF SILENCE SEEMS SO LITTLE A TASK

FOR ALL THAT THEY SACRIFICED:  IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
