Poem 226: Paying The Price

A total of 440 million dollars across three civil cases is what “Trump” has been ordered to pay

Of course he intends to appeal them, that’s his credo, delay, delay, delay

His company isn’t public and he has steadfastly refused to disclose his tax returns

Does he have the funds on hand is something we may all soon learn

He claimed in a deposition last year that he had substantially in excess of 400 million dollars in cash on hand

I tend not to believe everything he says, I’m sure you all understand

He has to post the funds or get a bond in his civil fraud case

If he resists paying, a sheriff would be put in  place

This would take effect immediately and all his assets would be seized

If that should occur, I’m sure “Donald” would not at all be pleased

Things are handled differently in the court where “E. Jean Carroll” was his victim

“Trump” could be ordered to produce his bank account records through the Federal system

They could then proceed to place a lien or even garnish his wages

This would have to go through the trial judge to implement these stages

“Trump” has no way of delaying payments so the money has to be put up front

Typically 120 to 125 percent of the post judgment is needed to implement this stunt

We are now talking about 550 million dollars and the interest will accrue

Who knows how much extra money he will have to pay before this process is through

Perhaps he will not have a company left when all is said and done

Just how much will this affect him on his presidential run?

“Trump”  with all his indictments has put him on a roll

With every conviction, his popularity increases in the polls

The donations to his campaign are continuing to pour in

His Ultra MAGA followers still believe that he will win

They seem to be backing him no matter what the cost

Of course they are gullible enough to believe he never lost

Even with all his loyal supporters he cannot raise that kind of cash

We will finally see if “Donald” has that big of a stash

His true worth will finally be revealed once the dust has cleared

Once he is exposed for the fraud he is, he will no longer be revered

For all his loyal disciples this will be beyond comprehension

Let’s hope this is accomplished before the upcoming election

Poem 225: Oldies But Goodies

Just a message to let you know that I am still around

If you have been looking for me, I have been living underground

No I didn’t become a miner and decide to dig for gold!

I have been keeping myself busy which resulted on my poems being put on hold

I would head down into my basement and just disappear

It started in December and has continued into the new year

You see I have been a hoarder and you might say I am in denial

Ever since I was a teenager I have steadfastly refused to give up all my vinyl

I have kept them on shelves or in storage boxes out of view

With no intention of discarding them, yet not really knowing what to do?

I have held on to them for decades and kept them out of the way

Now that they have made a resurgence I had a purpose to put them on display

I decided I would take them out of the darkness and bring them back to the light

So if I was going to tackle this, I had every intention of doing it right

I have never been the  one to rush out and do things right away

I tend to overdue the research which ultimately causes much delay

I put hours and days of time looking for the proper stand

I researched every business and looked up every brand

I have accumulated many Lps, 78’s and forty fives

Some of them were issued before I was alive

It just happened I got on my computer and found the ideal one online

This was the perfect unit that suited the both of us just fine

The top had a shelf that displayed the records like in the old music stores

My wife and I both agreed we couldn’t ask for anything more

The bonus was that we could buy it local and out the door we went

After we put them together, we agreed that it was money well spent

Each stand was supposed to hold 330 records so I figured we needed five

After filling every one of them, we had to go for another drive

We bought a couple more and filled up every space

Both of us agree, it looks great in its place

I bought a double wide filing cabinet for my forty fives to store

Indexed them alphabetically to the letter “T” and had no room for more

The albums run from the “5th Dimension” all the way to “ZZ Topp”

Listen to “Big Band”, “Western”, “Rock”, “Heavy Metal”, “Soul”, “Jazz”, “Disco” and “Pop”

I have more albums than forty fives which is quite a few

So we can all listen to the “Oldies” until I purchase something new

Poem 224: Winning Streak

Are you a person who likes to gamble or play that game of chance?

Dream of winning the lottery just to better your circumstance?

I am one of those individuals and I haven’t had much luck at all

The most money I won was a hundred dollars on “Lotto Max” I recall

In fact I keep the proof in my wallet that I carry every day

I don’t buy a ticket very often, in fact I rarely play

When the jackpot is enormous, that’s the time I usually give in

Perhaps that’s the reason that I seldom win

But now the tide has changed and I am now on quite a streak

I have been winning prizes every single day of the week

For contests that I don’t even remember entering my name

But the rewards from these events are pouring in just the same

I am not bragging about it all, I insist

Here are just a few examples that are on my list

I got a five hundred dollar gift card from “West Jet” to go towards a flight

I wasn’t making plans, but now I think I might!

Not to be outdone, “Air Canada” sent me one too

Another five hundred dollars, perhaps I can combine the two?

I have parcels waiting  for delivery waiting for confirmation to send

I don’t remember ordering anything, they must be from a friend

Some businesses must think I’m bilingual because they are en francais

Another couple of presents that have somehow lost their way

“Rona” sent me a request to fill out a survey and I think I will

Just for answering their questions I receive a “Milwaukee” power drill

I’m not much of a handyman and everyone can agree

This won’t take up much time and hell it’s all free

Finally, being computer savvy as I am

I am intelligent enough to recognize a scam!

I got some email from “Netflix” saying my subscription was suspended

I never had an account, so how could it have ended?

Two dollars a year for movies is what I would have to pay

You think I’m stupid! I wasn’t born yesterday!

Poem 223: Downtown Walk

It was the “American Thanksgiving” so I got a lot of sports in

So many to choose from I didn’t know where I would begin

Thursday, football was available for the whole day

Friday featured hockey and I got to watch my “Hawks” play

It was an afternoon game which turned out alright

My daughter and I had made plans for later on that night

My team beat the “Leafs” in overtime which was really nice

This was their second meeting and my “Hawks” have won twice

I’m liking it more for one very reason

They don’t play each other again for the rest of the season

You know some “Toronto” fans do like to talk

My comeback to them will be “You never defeated the Hawks”

After the game ended it was time to head out to the chill that was in the air

I had a hard time deciding on what I should wear

I got an ensemble together and finally put it on

Got the dog on his leash, walked out the door and we were gone

The plan was to pick up my daughter at her place

Throughout this trip the cold wind was blowing in my face

It was an annual event we were going to on this day

From her place of residence it was only blocks away

There were people there that we were expected to meet

An outdoor event on our local “Main Street”

We spent the whole evening going from block to block

Now I know why they call it the “Downtown Walk”

They had a little train there for the kids to ride and the lines were long

There were people and choirs all singing Christmas songs

Hot chocolate and marshmallow roasting was available too

There wasn’t too many people there that I knew

We watched snowboarders performing on a make shift slide

It’s the first thing we attended when we arrived

They were packing things up when we went for another view

That’s when we decided that we would leave too

I would say that we spent a couple of hours down there

This gave a father and a daughter new memories to share

We both were dressed warm for the cold outdoor weather

I always enjoy the times that we get to spend together

Poem 222: Sport Trifecta

Yesterday I was in a dilemma, not knowing what to do

My plan was to watch two football games and a hockey match before my day was through

The schedule wasn’t going my way with them being a few hours apart

The “Buffalo Bills” playing the “New York Jets” had the earliest start

The “Grey Cup” championship of the “CFL” featuring “Winnipeg” and “Montreal” was next on the list

These were events I didn’t want to miss

Then the “Hawks” playing the “Sabres” was another must see

I didn’t know if I would be able to watch all three

If I was paying through the nose for cable I could have recorded each and every one

See them later making sure I didn’t know who won

This is an option that I no longer possess

With a little bit of ingenuity however, I was able to accomplish my quest

I watched two hours of the “Bills” game before the “CFL” game was to start

Thankful that they were scheduled at least two hours apart

This time gap really helped me in my cause

I watched the first two quarters and simply pressed pause

This option only gave me ninety minutes to keep that game on hold

I then went to my “CFL” game to see what would unfold

I was able to watch all the action and every single play

Then back to the “NFL” at half time, I could afford no delay

I managed to watch the rest of the “Bills” game with no time to spare

Thanks to the fast forward button that helped to get me there

If “Green Day” wasn’t playing the half time show in “Hamilton” I would have never accomplished this feat

Once again the favoured “Winnipeg Blue Bombers” went down in defeat

The “Alouettes” made quite a comeback with only seconds left to take the lead

I really wanted our hometown hero “Mike O’Shea” to succeed

All this time I had my “Blackhawks” playing on a tablet next to me

I was continually going back and forth every time I had a chance to see

The “Blackhawks” like the “Bombers” never won

These games finished seconds apart and my night was finally done

My “Bills” beat the “Jets” for a much needed win

Tonight “Philadelphia” plays “Kansas City”, 8:15 pm is when it begins

NOVEMBER 11TH

IT’S ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF THE ELEVENTH MONTH EVERY YEAR

A TIME TO REMEMBER WHEN WE ONCE LIVED IN FEAR

A TIME WHEN PEACE ON THE PLANET WAS PUT TO A TEST

WHEN EVIL RULED AND THERE WAS COMPLETE UNREST

THIS WAS A TIME WHEN MEN AND WOMEN FOUGHT THE FIGHT

THROUGH EVERY DAY AND EVERY NIGHT

THEIR LIVES WERE DEVASTATED AND MANY LIVES WERE LOST

ALL FOR PEACE AT A HORRIFIC COST

PEOPLE FROM OUR COUNTRY WHO CHOSE TO DEFEND

OUR RIGHT TO PEACE, UNWILLING TO BEND

NOT GIVING IN TO THE EVIL THAT WAS ALL CONSUMING AT THE TIME

A TYRANT THAT WAS KILLING WITHOUT REASON OR RHYME

THESE PEOPLE LEFT THEIR SAFE HOMELAND TO BATTLE THIS FOE

THEY ENLISTED BY THE THOUSANDS AS YOU AND I KNOW

TO STAND UP FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE WAS THEIR GOAL

THEY WERE PROUD TO BE SOLDIERS:  THEY CHOSE THIS ROLE

THEY LANDED IN EUROPE TO MAKE THEIR STAND

DETERMINED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS FOREIGN LAND

THEY WERE WELCOMED BY THESE PEOPLE WHEN THEY ARRIVED

WITHOUT THESE BRAVE SOLDIERS NO ONE WOULD HAVE SURVIVED

THEIR GOAL WAS TO END THIS GERMAN KILLING MACHINE

WHO WERE LED BY HITLER, A TERROR TRULY OBSCENE

MEMBERS OF THE JEWISH FAITH WERE THE PEOPLE HE CHOSE TO SLAY

THE GAS CHAMBERS HE USED FOR THESE ACTS REMAIN UNTIL THIS DAY

IT WAS DURING WORLD WAR II WHERE THESE PEOPLE WOULD FALL

THE WAR THAT PRECEDED THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO END THEM ALL

WORLD WAR ONE IS SAID TO HAVE DEFINED CANADA AS A NATION

THANKS TO OUR BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION

WE FOUGHT SO MANY WARS OVER THE YEARS

LOST SO MANY LIVES, SHED SO MANY TEARS

CANADA WAS AN INFANT WHEN WORLD WAR ONE BEGAN

WE HAVE BATTLED IN EUROPE, KOREA AND AFGHANISTAN

WE HAVE SOLDIERS BEING SACRIFICED IN THIS MODERN AGE

TO PRESERVE THE PEACE THAT OUR NATION HAS CHOSEN TO WAGE

CANADA HAS GROWN AS A NATION, WE’LL MAINTAIN OUR STANCE

OUR PAST HEROES ARE WORSHIPPED IN EUROPE: REVERED IN FRANCE

THE MAJORITY OF US HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE: NEVER EXPERIENCED WAR

SOME THINK IT AS HORRIBLE AND JUST CHOOSE TO IGNORE

NOVEMBER 11TH  IS THE DATE WE HAVE CHOSEN TO SHARE

TO SHOW OUR ARMED FORCES THAT OUR NATION DOES TRULY CARE

WE JUST CAN’T BE APATHETIC AND NOT HONOUR THIS DATE

FOR ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN THAT REACHED THEIR GRIM FATE

TWO MINUTES OF SILENCE SEEMS SO LITTLE A TASK

FOR ALL THAT THEY SACRIFICED:  IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

Poem 221: Early In The NHL Season

After just twelve games, I am checking to see what my “Hawks” have done

Just as it was last year, they have lost more than they’ve won

This is a pattern that I don’t expect to break

It has been a real tough schedule that they had to undertake

The NHL set it up this way so they could showcase “Bedard”

Since the first puck dropped, their schedule has been very hard

They haven’t played a team below five hundred in any game so far

I have all the confidence in the world that “Conner” is going to be a star

He is leading rookies in scoring even though he has faced the best

It’s going to be very interesting to see how he performs against the rest

This team is being competitive in every game they play

There was only one encounter when they got blown away

I have been happy with everything I’ve seen

It’s hard to believe that this kid just turned eighteen

All I can ask for is that my team does their best

Now to look at how some other franchises are doing in their quest

The “Edmonton Oilers” have definitely had their share of bad luck

Then we are all amazed at the play of the “Vancouver Canucks”

I don’t know if “McDavid” is playing hurt, because he only has ten points so far

“Draisaitl” leads the team with fifteen, their other superstar

There are fans panicking that they are going to miss the playoffs this year

I don’t think this franchise has anything to fear

As for “Vancouver” they are off to a great start

Are they for real or will they eventually fall apart?

The usual suspects, Boston, Rangers and Vegas are all in first place

When their final game ends will they be occupying that same space?

Each team has at least sixty five games left to play in this season

I leave the predictions to the experts for that very reason

There are so many variables that  could happen from now until next spring

I have no idea on who will wear that “Stanley Cup” ring

I can say my team won’t be participating when this year is done

Hopefully after a couple of more seasons they will be back on the playoff run

Poem 220: Sunday Tunes

Got up Sunday morning early as I usually do

Of course we were now on standard time, daylight savings time was through

My phone showed it was six thirty, that meant I actually slept in

I had already gained an hour before my day was to begin

I put the dog on the leash and headed out the door

I know that last line, you definitely read before

So I put on my headphones and was listening to some political talk

The topic wasn’t interesting so I changed stations and continued on our walk

Decided to listen to some music on “Retrohits.ca”

Turned the volume up a little bit and went on our way

It’s a great site that plays old hits from the past

I try to guess each song, which seems to make the walk go fast

If you really know me, I have a competitive side

I am trying to get the song and the singer with every single stride

I am going to confide in you and tell you even more

With every song that is aired, I am keeping score

I kicked in “Shazam” just to see if I was right or wrong

I continued on my route enjoying every single song

I got “Gone, Gone, Gone” from “Chilliwack” right from the start

Then I couldn’t remember who sang “Un-break My Heart”

“I Got You Babe” from “Sonny & Cher” there’s no doubt!

I couldn’t remember “Diana Ross” sang “I’m Coming Out”

“Undercover Angel” was the next song they would play

Hats off to anyone who knew it was “Alan O’Day”

I only managed to recall another one or two

Then I got upset with myself when they played “Jackie Blue”

That is a tune that I should have never gotten wrong

“The Ozark Mountain Daredevils” is the band that sings this song

Chances are if they played their other hit, I would have missed that as well

“If You Wanna Get To Heaven” you gotta raise a little Hell

I am too embarrassed to tell you my final score

I even considered walking extra blocks just to hear a few more

Chances are I could have walked all day and never come out ahead

I have to find a strictly “seventies” hit station instead

This is the decade that I know the best

I would have no problem passing that test

Then I thought it’s a good thing that I have the dog when I roam

Maybe he’s the only one who knows our way home

Though the score I received was a total disgrace

I have to admit that listening to these songs really picked up my pace

I shaved seven or eight minutes off the time I usually take

Maybe listening to music while I walk is a change I should make

Concentrate on the exercise instead of my “brain power”

I completed this morning’s trek fifteen seconds short of that extra hour

Poem 219: Lewiston Maine

Eighteen people dead in Lewiston, Maine, another mass killing in the “States”

Once again the topic is stirring up a lot of debates

They are going through this cycle like so many before

This is the 565th incident this year if you are keeping score

The average is 1.92 mass murders a day and we still have two months to go

This just means the death toll will continue to grow

It seems so crazy to me that this doesn’t sound some alarms

Thanks to their 2nd Amendment “The right to bear arms”

This will be in the news each and every day

Just like so many times before, this too will fade away

“Democrats” want gun control, “Republicans” totally oppose

I guess this is the way “America” runs I suppose

The “NRA” is a big donator to many “Republican” campaigns

That’s why “Democrats” have been thwarted time and time again

You don’t bite the hand that feeds you, so “Republicans” will stay true

That’s why any kind of amendments will never get through

They kill them in the schoolyards, they kill them in the streets

This is just a viscous cycle that continues to repeat

They won’t ban automatic rifles because “Americans” love their guns

So murderers pull the trigger and then go on their run

I don’t think they go into this expecting to survive

The majority of these killers don’t make it out alive

They commit suicide or get gunned down by a cop

Still despite all of this, these occurrences never seem to stop

Being a mass murderer, you get all the news

You don’t make the headlines if you only kill one or two

Say you take another life, well that only makes three

Your name still won’t be out there for everyone to see

Four or more murders will get you in the books

Anything less than that, they won’t take a second look

So I don’t expect anything to change after the upcoming election

Unless a mass murderer attends the next “Republican” convention

Poem 218: Series Binging

There are people who’s series binging is now just a routine

There are so many shows I would like to watch and so many I haven’t seen

I am the person who is there for the first season and just continues from there

Those who really like their shows are always happy to share

How do they decide on what to watch when there is so much to see?

There is such a vast variety, it’s just so overwhelming to me

I try to stay away from major networks that have sometimes twenty six episodes a season

Then factor in the years and I bow out for that very reason

If it had a run of over four years there will be a hundred installments to view

That’s why I take the easy way out and look for something new

This way I am starting fresh and don’t have to watch something from the past

The trouble lately is that the ones I take a liking to never seem to last

So yesterday I did some research to see what shows have stood the test of time

See how long they lasted when they were in their prime

Ones that I remember when I was growing up

Some shows aired before the “Leafs” last won the “Stanley Cup”!!!

There were always a lot of westerns and each week would have a gunfight

“Bonanza” was the one I remember the most and it was on Sunday night

I remember “Michael Landon” portraying “Little Joe”

When he finished that, “Little House On The Prairie” he would go

“Bonanza” ran for fourteen seasons and “Little House” would last nine more

His last show was “Highway To Heaven” , he died young at fifty four

“Gunsmoke” was the longest running western, it lasted twenty years

“Matt Dillon”, “Miss Kitty”, and “Festus” were the main characters to appear

“My Three Sons” was another show that I remember well

“Bewitched” had “Darren” married to “Samantha” under her witch’s spell

“The Beverly Hillbillies” and “The Waltons” were very popular in their day

“Married With Children”, “Murphy Brown” and who could forget “Happy Days”

“All In The Family” was so controversial as well as “The Jeffersons” , a spinoff of the show

“Maude” was still another spinoff in case you didn’t know

The “F.B.I.”, “Mannix”, and “Ironside” were crime shows that appeared years before

These are just a few examples, there are so many more

This is just the tip of the iceberg of shows that I used to view

Some you will remember, others you never knew

They are so last century and some may never be found

I counted all the episodes in case they are still around

Over forty five hundred episodes if I was to take them in

There are so many, I have no idea where I would begin

In one year I would have to watch at least twelve episodes daily I would say

If they ran sixty minutes it would literally take up half my day

It’s obviously too much of a commitment that I refuse to undertake

Trying to relive my life in decades old television is a total mistake

So I will rely on my failing memory and will not proceed

Occupy my time with better things, maybe find a book to read
