Poem 103: Deja Vu

I watched some of the impeachment trial of Trump episode number two

He was never going to be convicted, no matter what the Democrats could do

The Republicans vowed to back him up all the way

Even with all the chaos he caused, they wouldn’t let Trump pay

The evidence in front of them showed him guilty and it was plain to see

The Party of Trump held fast and refused to agree

This man has been a total disgrace to the country world wide

Do these members have no morality or any sense of pride?

I still can’t figure out for the life of me why they continue to kiss his ass

I live in Canada and I couldn’t wait for his four years to pass

How this man is able to get away with all of this really is a shame

Being a crook and a grifter will continue to be his claim to fame

When he was first elected, it was John McCain that kept him in check

Since his unfortunate passing the Republican Party is now a total wreck

Not blaming him for this riot and insurrection should make you stop and think

This party has stooped so low now, how much further can it sink?

What an example they set, the ones who write the law

Ignoring everything they heard everything they saw

The ones who delayed the process and chose to set it aside

Then stating that Trump is no longer in office, he gets a free ride

Then you have his faithful rioters who have been charged with the crime

Chances are some will be convicted and have to serve their time

Meanwhile Donald just walks away and gets away with another one

Don’t think his base is finished, in fact the trouble has just begun

I can see the Republican Party splitting and just fall apart

This is how a Trump led party will initially get its start

There could be three parties to choose from come next election

It now won’t come to either or when you have to make a selection

All he would need is more than one third of the vote to be put back in place

Who knows, with a three way split, he could win the race

This is a farfetched scenario but it could come into play

All because the weak Republicans wouldn’t make Trump pay

Poem 102: Superbowl Sunday

We were all out early Sunday morning, thanks to “Mother Nature”

Thanks for all the snow she dropped, it turned into an adventure

We ended up doing our own driveway and helping neighbours out

In the “Great White North” that’s what it’s all about

We all thought we had dodged yet another snow squall warning

Thought we were in the clear until we woke up yesterday morning

We had some light snow on the two days just before

But come Sunday morning there was a hell of a lot more

So most of us were out there in the cool crisp air

The sound of all the snow blowers could be heard everywhere

When you have the right equipment you should get the job done soon

We started off in mid morning and finished up in the afternoon

I wanted this to be over with, you see I had another goal

I had planned to watch two hockey games before the “Super Bowl”

I watched the “Flyers” and the Caps with “Philadelphia” getting the win

When this one was finished, the “Blackhawks” and “Stars” game was to begin

This game went into overtime and “Chicago” beat “Dallas” two to one

This is the first overtime game this season that the “Hawks” finally won

The football game was not for another hour, so I had a little break

Even though I had been up since six am I was still wide awake

I went into this game thinking the “Chiefs” were the team to beat

There was no way that this team would end up in defeat

I guess I thought they looked so good when they beat my “Bills” two weeks before

Never thought they would get in the championship game and not get a T.D. score

“Tampa Bay” looked so dominating in every aspect of the game

“Tom Brady” won his seventh on his way to the “Hall of Fame”

When you watch this game, you have to watch the commercials too!

Were there any ones I liked? I admit there was quite a few

“Brady” won the “MVP” and now has his seventh ring

Will he call it a career, and make this his final fling?

Commentators are talking like he is coming back next year

This could be a fitting way to end a storied career

The NFL had a few glitches, Covid 19 was the reason

Even though they had lots of bumps,  they made it through the season

There were no delays from the start and they finished on their scheduled time

For every other major sports, it’s been an uphill climb

I thought the football season would have been affected most of all

This I predicted when it started in the fall

I thought it was a “no brainer” when the season did begin

Of course I’m the same guy who picked the “Chiefs” to win

I am hoping that the vaccine for this virus will thrive and do its thing

A sign that things are close to normal would be having baseball start this spring

Poem 101: City Lockdown

I have been adhering to all the Covid 19 instructions and doing the best I can

Obeying all the protocols and sticking to their plan

I understand we should do our best to enforce the rules today

Listen to what the experts preach and try to do as they say

Now myself, I live in the Nipissing District and our cases now total one

Mayor Al of North Bay has decided to cancel all the fun

He’s closed all the skidooing, skiing, sledding and the skating too

So if the kids want to venture out, there is nothing for them to do

I think he may be a little overreacting by putting everything on hold

What the hell are kids to do when they are outside in the cold?

I mean there isn’t an overabundance of places where they can go

Give the kids a break Al, and let them play out in the snow

So the only activity to do is walking on the side street

Seeing you can’t stop to chat, you shouldn’t freeze your feet

The Covid 19 restrictions vary week to week, so try to stay on top

Because if you should break a rule, you could be fined by a local cop

So now they are saying that you should wear a double mask

So I hooked up my dog to his leash and went on our daily task

Now here I am on the sidewalk on this particular day

Heading down on the overpass while a bicycle is coming my way

The area is so narrow, there is no room for two

The pup and I hopped on the snow bank, it’s all that we could do

We definitely weren’t six feet apart when he finally squeezed by

As he peddled past us, I got a thank you from the guy

We continued down the hill and at the bottom we had to make a right

We proceeded to Memorial Drive once we crossed Judge at the light

The sidewalks there are scary and not level at all

If you aren’t careful you could slip and fall

This is the most popular site for walkers in our town

It would be much appreciated if they could somehow plane it down

There are so many people walking their dogs on this way

I run into so many others each and every day

We have people strolling there morning, noon and night

It would be nice to see some effort in getting this job right

There is over two kilometers to walk from Judge to Main

There is another feature of this route that I have to complain

The people who walk their dogs are required to clean their mess

This is another issue that all us dog walkers wish to address

Seeing that exercising out pets is the only activity we able to accomplish in this ban

It would be much appreciated if the city could supply us with more than one garbage can

I don’t know if you have had to handle a bag of crap in the freezing cold

Sometimes it can get very slippery and very hard to hold

The plastic also can get brittle and chances are it will break

Putting it in our pockets is an option one does not take

So naturally accidents are going to happen and some contents will fall to the ground

Who knows where they will end up and where they will be found?

If this continues, things could pile up for a while

Come spring, they may have another nickname for “The Golden Mile”

As far as garbage cans go, we need a  couple more

We could use them in so many other areas, is it really that big a chore?

If walking is our only sanctioned event that this City will allow

Maybe we have to make more use of the sidewalk plough

I’m watching the news from the big infected cities every single night

They show the kids outside playing while we are locked down tight

Maybe Mayor Al it’s time to take a second look and show a little pity

Of course it may not affect you at all since you don’t reside in our City

Poem 100: Gutless

Is Trump gone for good? One can only hope

Four years has been too long for all of us to cope

A man who has lied to everyone straight to their face

All that is left is his second impeachment case

A man that has no scruples is officially gone

The world has awakened to a whole new dawn

No more finding out what could happen next

By waiting to read his next tweeted text

Being on top of the news had become a must

When the man who’s in charge is someone you can’t trust

Breaking news happened every minute when he was the Chief

The things he said and did were sometimes beyond belief

Donald’s life is now entering into a new phase

For all the wrong that he did, I now hope he pays

How loyal will his party continue to be?

I guess we will all have to wait and see

Will they continue to back this guy?

Ignore the five people that had to die?

Will the Senate fail to convict him for the second time?

Or will they finally prosecute him for this horrendous crime?

What looks so obvious to both you and me

For some reason the Republicans are blind to see

The problem is that most of these Republicans are scared to the core

The base that endorses Trump, they just can’t ignore

They have used this man to attain their own goals

They are all complicit and each served a role

They stoked the fire that has fueled the base

This mob of people is who they chose to embrace

This disorderly group that they helped create

Are the main reason that they each hold a seat

No matter what their leader did or what he said

They chose to ignore of all his antics instead

This way they could continue to achieve

When their faithful rioted the Capitol, they had to retrieve

Now this is the dilemma that this party is now in

Without the support of Trump’s base, can they truly win?

They know that if they decide to make Donald pay for his deed

Chances are their own Republican Party won’t be able to succeed

It’s only themselves that they think of, they really have no pride

If they do the right thing, they will all have to run and hide

If they turn on Trump, they now become the prey

That is why these cowards will never make Trump really pay

Once again we are all forced to sit here in wait

Hoping he will finally be sentenced by the New York State

Poem 99: Do The Right Thing

It’s now Monday morning and the countdown is now down to two

Donald Trump’s occupation of the White House will finally be  through

Wednesday is the day and all thanks to him

The celebration of the event could prove to be grim

The capitol is surrounded by security for this event

A repeat of January sixth is what they are trying to prevent

That afternoon Joe Biden officially becomes the President in charge

Trump will then assume the position of criminal at large

His supporters who stormed the Capitol all lie in wait

The security had to be heightened in each and every State

Violence won’t stop when Donald walks out the door

In fact the people he incited are thirsty for more

Poor Joe will certainly have his hands full in trying to keep the peace

Trump’s followers are faithful and show no signs they will cease

Their so called leader will never admit this defeat

He’s more concerned with the fact that he can no longer tweet

Since the election ended all he’s done is bitch and moan

Pouting all the time in his office where he is mostly alone

The talk is that he is planning an event on Wednesday as well

The way he has handled this Pandemic has been a living hell

Not sure how long this event is expected to last

Hope he’s not long on goodbyes and ends it fast

The country he’s vacating is now in total distress

Now it’s up to the Democrats to clean up his mess

Last week Trump was impeached which now makes it twice

It’s time to give the Senators some much needed advice

The trial for this man will be presented in time

That’s when this lame President will pay for his crime

It’s up to you Republicans, this is your call

You can eliminate this tyrant once and for all

The trouble he stirred has affected the whole nation

It should be easy to prove without any hesitation

Hitting him in the wallet will hurt him the most

You can’t find him innocent and just let him coast

This man is going to need every cent he can get

He doesn’t have the bank roll to pay all his debt

Right from the start he’s been a total disgrace

It’s time to grow some balls and put him in his place

He’s ruined your country’s reputation and you know he doesn’t care

It’s time for both parties to show some union and begin to repair

Deny him his pension and the free travel plan

It’s time for someone to finally step up to this man

He will continue to say that he never lost and say it’s a crime

While traveling free around the world on the taxpayer’s dime

Five lives have been taken if you are keeping score

The reality is that there could be many more

Join Mike Pence in being a “Pussy” and take his stance

Impeach Donald Trump in the Senate so he has no second chance

Poem 98: Reckoning

It’s just a joke there’s no way he will win

That is the way this story would begin

Experienced lawmakers laughing at him everyday

While Donald flung insults at them along the way

This whole thing is hilarious he hasn’t a chance

But steadily in the polls he continued to advance

Graham and Cruz were also opponents in this race

They both fought back at him and called him a disgrace

The war of insults would finally abate

When Trump was eventually chosen as the Republican candidate

So Donald was now in the driver’s seat

Experts still laughed and said he would end up in defeat

He continued with his name calling during his campaign

“Crooked Hillary” would become his favourite refrain

Rallies are what he lived for throughout his run

He loved the adoration, could say anything and for him it was fun

These were no holds barred sessions and did what he wanted to do

This man would spew out anything and very seldom was it true

Still all the polls showed that he would fall

Yet come November, he won it all

The so called experts didn’t get it right

Donald Trump ended up winning this fight

So what happened to Lindsey Graham and Lyin’ Ted?

They both cowered to this man instead

Mitch McConnell joined the duo to make it three

This is how the party shaped up and how it would be

They enabled their new leader and just put him out there

As long as they achieved their goals they really didn’t care

They backed him up and kissed his ass all the way

Were never deterred on what he did or had to say

Trump continued his rallies shortly after the race

He thrived on all the adoration, it was his happy space

His bigotry and hatred would seem to increase every year

His party was in denial but to the world it was perfectly clear

This man continued his prejudice and refused to stop

He cleared out the streets of Washington for his own photo-op

During the “Black Lives Matter” protest is when he did this deed

Still yet the Republicans endorsed him and did not impede

He brought out the National Guard to enforce his law

The rest of his party chose to ignore what they saw

His “White Supremist” antics were now on full display

His loyal group still backed him all the way

Now a few months later and “The Party of Trump” is starting to squirm

Their heroic leader has failed to win his second term

He’s claiming the election was rigged and refuses to abide

Over one hundred and fourty members have stood by his side

The three stooges, Mitch, Lindsey and Lyin’ Ted

Backed up their leader and let them go ahead

Sixty cases lost and laughed out of every court

Larry, Moe and Curly show him their support

January sixth was chosen to certify the election and get it out of the way

Trump and his supporters had a “Save America Rally” scheduled on the same day

Don Junior, Rudy and the President fired them up with their so called hoax

Then sent them to the Capitol and there was no need to coax

Trump vowed he would join them but of course he never did

These instigators went back to the White House and that’s where they hid

This mob broke into the buildings and put up quite a fight

Trump didn’t call the National Guard because his friends are white

Five people have died as a result from this riot

Trump made a few statements but has been really quiet

There are plans to punish the demagogue and I wish them the best

Somehow I think however, they will fail in their quest

For Mitch, Lindsey and Ted, it was a terrible fright

As a result of being scared stiff they all now see the light

They have condemned the President for the actions he took

I don’t think these three idiots are off the hook

Lindsey ran into Trump’s posse when he left for his plane

The way that they heckled him could drive him insane

These three men could possibly have a target on their head

Choosing to ignore all what Trump stood for they’ll learn to dread

The rest of your lives you will all have to watch your backs

Not know when or if this group will choose to attack

Now Donald, if you don’t get sentenced for all of your crimes

These people who backed you will turn on you in time

Once they get to the realization that you used them and took their money too

There won’t be enough bodyguards to protect you and you know that’s true

So go back to Mar-a-lago when you once felt safe and sound

Not knowing what day on the course could be your final round

Poem 97: Compromise

Whatever the experts profess my wife and I always choose to obey

Lately we have taken social distancing in a different way

We never planned it out intentionally, it just seemed to be the case

How can two people who love each other, not occupy the same space?

You see my wife is on a binge that she can’t really cease

The devotion she has given to it continues to increase

She is now on quite a bender and now three days have gone by

I don’t want to engage with her in this habit and I refuse to try

I admit I have joined her in these escapades once before

I tried again this time, but I couldn’t do it anymore

How long will we be apart? No one really knows

I think there are ninety seven episodes in this particular show

The show is about a virgin, I think her name is Jane

I could be viewing it with her but alas I chose to refrain

I’ve left her in the living room to continue with her addiction

I crawled down in the basement to avoid any unwanted friction

She is now sitting upstairs in the bright lit room

I am forced to the cellar to sit amongst all the gloom

I, being the nice guy have decided to take it like a man

To keep my partner happy, I’ll do everything I can

Now I’m forced to remain in here with the big screen

All in an effort to stay calm and not to cause a scene

So now I am all alone and there is no one else around

Sitting in front of the 4k television listening to the surround sound

That is what I have to endure while I’m stuck in this hole

Friday I had to sit through the Rose and the Sugar Bowl

Saturday I was forced to choose between football and hockey on the air

Does anybody really understand my dilemma? Does anybody care?

Four games of junior hockey is what I ended up getting to see

During intermission I watched some football, how much worse can it be?

Yesterday my Buffalo Bills played and they beat the Dolphins crew

If you were in my position, would you put up with it like I have to do?

I may be stuck in this dudgeon until the junior championships come to a close

While she is able to sit in comfort while watching her favourite show

I got an update from wife, she says she is now into season four

Spoiler Alert: It seems Jane can’t be called a virgin anymore

Not sure how many more episodes are left for her to see

So who knows  how much longer my sentence will truly be

I’ve turned down the gas fireplace and now there’s a chill in the air

I’m just going to leave it that way just to show how I don’t care

I won’t turn up the thermostat, I won’t even venture to try

I’ll just sulk in my recliner and set my electric blanket up to high

I hope to endure this all until everything finally comes to a stop

I must leave you now to get some more chips and then refill my pop

Poem 96: Holiday

Christmas is now over and this dismal year is almost through

The Province is now in lockdown and what will you choose to do?

Will you follow all the guidelines and listen to what they say?

Or just ignore it all and treat it as just another day?

Most will stick to the protocol because they want to do all they can

Some will just continue to deny and just brush aside this ban

Those who oppose it refuse to participate in this fight

Yet they are the first ones to complain when things aren’t going right

The vaccine seems to be the only chance we got

Then you’ll have some people who’ll refuse to take the shot

This coming new year will start off worse than the year before

The cases of this virus will accumulate and soar

Christmas and New Years’ wave will peak early in the next year

Hopefully this will be its final crest before we see it disappear

I venture it won’t be until the summer before things turn around

Who knows how much longer it will be before we’re safe and sound

Because people travelled during this holiday season

The numbers will eventually increase for this very reason

Those who missed their relatives chose to make their trip

A family tradition that they just didn’t want to skip

They were thinking of their kin that they haven’t seen in a while

Wanted to visit them in person and give them all a smile

For some it was a short jaunt, others had to travel coast to coast

Those who did the journey, thought of themselves the most

Disregarding all the caution that’s there in plain sight

Hopped into their cars or booked themselves a flight

Spreading germs to one another as they went along their route

Not concerned with anyone as they went all about

Who knows how many people were infected on their travels

Wait a few more weeks and things will soon unravel

The numbers will spike again and more people will be dead

Just because all these individuals refused to stay at home instead

Still they won’t give a second thought to all of those who will perish

It’s only their own lives that these folks really choose to cherish

Poem 95: In Your Neighbourhood

It’s the winter solstice, which makes it official today

It’s the first day of this season and it’s not going away

Today we also have our longest night

Tomorrow we increase the time of daylight

We got through November with no snow on the ground

Now in our region there is snow everywhere to be found

It’s freezing rain right now which is a sort of reprieve

There’s fifteen centimeters expected on Christmas eve

The day before Christmas, Ford is going to shut things down

The length of the closure will be two weeks in our town

Those who live south of our northern border

Will get an extra fortnight to put things in order

The more the merrier in this case doesn’t necessarily apply

The higher the concentration, the more people will die

The Premier knows exactly what is at stake

There’s talk of them extending the Christmas break

He’s trying to prevent another wave before it can begin

A gamble he is taking and has all his chips in

This lock down will contnue into the new year

Most of us will follow while others refuse to adhere

This holiday season will be one for the ages

Hopefully this pandemic is into its final stages

This Christmas season I am willing to bet

Will be the one that no one will ever forget

With all this snow at least on our block

It gives our neighbours all a chance to talk

When we are digging each of ourselves out

That’s the only time where we are out and about

The weather is usually mild when we receive a big pile

So since we are all out, that’s when we can talk for awhile

Last night we were out for hours in our driveway

Talking to each other, we all had something to say

Satisfied that we all got rid of the snow

The plow then goes by and we all have to go

Instead of getting angry, we all took it in stride

I guess we were all tired of being cooped up inside

Even after all that, my wife decided to play in the snow

She was constructing her snowman and what do you know?

Just when she had the body made and in its place

A neighbour offered her a carrot to use for the face

Another neighbour was dropping off baked goods door to door

Such a variety of sweet goods, you couldn’t ask for more

We may not have a big family gathering this yuletide season

We’ve heard it for months, we all know the reason

It’s time to stick to this plan and get rid of this curse

Don’t buck the system, it only makes everything worse

In our location where we choose to live

We are surrounded by people who love to give

They are all there when you are in need

Or lend you the tools to help you succeed

So if we get all that snow before the big day

It will be another visit that we get to pay

This way we can give best wishes to one another

Like you would if it was your sister or brother

We have become an extended family in so many ways

We still salute all of our essential workers each and every day

The more the flakes fall, the better we all get to know

So in order to keep in touch, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

Poem 94: Concede

It’s a refrain that we are forced to hear each and every day

The fact that Donald Trump doesn’t want to go away

He’s convinced himself that he has won the race

Losing is an option that he is refusing to embrace

States that have heard his cases now will total five

He seems to still be ambitious and seems to have the drive

The plan he hatched up months ago isn’t coming through

What’s next on his agenda? I haven’t got a clue

One hundred and twenty six Republicans backed him on his latest trial

Do they truly believe this man, or like him, are they in denial?

Trump believed he would win the race if he got it to the Supreme Court

Assumed the Judges he appointed owed him, and would show him their support

This is perhaps the most important case in history is what this man has tweeted

It was just a few hours later that this case of insanity was soundly defeated

The Judges informed his lawyers to stop these foolish attempts to win

Who knows when this transition of power will start to smoothly begin

Those who back this man still believe that Trump hasn’t lost

The division he has created will come at a great cost

Friday he ordered the authorization of a vaccine by the end of the day

If the head of the FDA didn’t comply he would send him on his way

Now he wants to be front and center now that a vaccine has been found

When you took attendance at the Covid 19 meetings, he was never around

Not taking responsibility for the virus that continues to ravage his nation

Not caring about the people out of work and families facing starvation

Still counting the money that people are donating for his cause

The same people who attend his rallies and smother him with applause

He has them thinking that he will run again in another four years

This money he can really use to get his corporation out of arrears

As long as he has people that are duped by thinking he’s so great

He will take all that he possibly can while they just sit in wait

He will continue on this plan and bleed them all dry

Let them believe the scenario of giving it one more try

Republicans are running scared because he is in control

The base believe that Donald is their heart and soul

They all follow this buffoon like he is their master

The party succumbs to him to advert their own disaster

They will never be able to topple this man from the throne

The behavior that he displays, they will continue to condone

Today is the day that the electoral ballots will be cast

Officially it will show that this President came in last

Joe Biden’s transition into power will continue to proceed

Donald as predicted will deny and still refuse to concede

Trump will persist with his rants and rages

With time his antics will be buried in the back pages
