Poem 183: Fingers Crossed

I am trying not to get optimistic, but I am loving the latest news

The one that “Donald Trump” will finally have to pay his dues

Hats off to the New York Attorney General “Letitia James”

She may be the one who initiates the end to his illegal games

Her announcement interrupted every American television station

The news she had was more important than the speeches from the “United Nations”

She basically said that the “Trump” Foundation has been corrupt for years

Turns out “Donald” isn’t as well off as he likes to appear

He thinks his property is much more valuable than it actually is

That’s the way the “Trumps” have always ran their biz

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree

He learned from his father who was as crooked as can be

“Don Jr”, “Ivanka” and Eric carry on the ruthlessness in this place

All three of them have also been implicated in this case

Fraud and misrepresentation was coupled up with years of financial wrongdoing

Just add this to the cases of them “unlawfully” screwing

Over valuing his properties by hundreds of millions was his favourite scam

Then lowering their worth at tax time to cheat “Uncle Sam”

He also exaggerated about his suite in his high rise

It turns out that it was only about the third of that size

They have over two hundred examples of this family’s treachery

The business will have to come up with two hundred and fifty million from their treasury

“Forbes” estimates that “Donny” has three hundred and seventy five million on hand

Seems like filling a tax return is something he can’t understand

His arrogance precedes him and his older children fit this mold

“Letitia” is also recommending putting their business on hold

She wants Trump Corporation’s property buying put on a five year wait

Have him and his company banned permanently from the “Empire” state

He  won’t be serving any jail time because it’s just a civil suit

But it could prove disastrous if he is unable to borrow any more loot

Nobody will loan him money if he is convicted of this crime

He will eventually go bankrupt, just a matter of time

Now like everything else, he isn’t convicted and is still running free

This is just another example of having to wait and see

The evidence gathered has been forwarded to the U.S. Justice to peruse

It still remains to be seen if he will finally pay his dues

Poem 182: Queen Elizabeth II

In case you haven’t heard, “Queen Elizabeth” passed away

The coverage of her funeral started at five am today

She was all of ninety six years old when she left our earth

Five hundred million dollars is said to be her net worth

Over seventy years as Queen would be the length of her reign

This is a record that seems impossible to attain

She was just twenty five years old when she ascended to the throne

To most of her loyal subjects she is the only monarch they have known

The British national anthem now won’t have that familiar ring

It’s going to be hard to get used to singing “God save the King”

She was a ruler that was loved by most countries that she served

Her entire nation has been displaying it since the state of mourning was observed

She died at “Balmoral Castle” in Scotland and the procession would start there

The final service for her should be quite an affair

Some mourners stayed in line for sixteen hours in order to pay their respects

They went on for miles at “Westminster Hall” where her body was being kept

This flow of grievers hasn’t ceased since she was laid in state

To all of these people she was truly great

Now her children have to carry on this role that she has vacated

The popularity of this Royal Family has been openly debated

Charles, now being King will be the leader of the clan

In a lot of the circles, he is not a popular man

He had more notoriety when he and “Lady Diana” shared the same space

Even then he would come in a distant second place

“Elizabeth” was the glue that kept her family in tow

Now that she is gone, who knows which way they’ll go?

Families can rebound and decide to reunite

Or just to choose to crumble, bicker and fight

The new King will always be remembered for the death of his first wife

He will be forced to carry that scar for the rest of his life

Everyone remembers that tragic day when “Lady Diana” died

Knowing that the lady he cheated with is now there by his side

Then you have his brother “Andrew” who was involved in the “Jeffrey Epstein” case

If “Epstein” had not committed suicide, would there be charges he would have to face?

The reporters interviewed him, which only made him look worse

Now he chooses to remain hidden and unwilling to converse

“Harry and Meghan” left the country and choose to continue on their own

There’s a rift between them and the family and off to “America” they have flown

“William and Kate” seem to be alright but they have had issues too

Will the two brothers resolve their differences? I certainly haven’t a clue

So now “King Charles” is left with all of this to manage

Seems the new job he inherited comes with a lot of baggage

“Elizabeth” ruled the roost and was very clever

Charles will hopefully continue to endeavor

These are situations that this family has dealt with all their life

It all started when “Edward VIII” married “Wallis Simpson” as his wife

Because she was previously divorced he abdicated his position as King of the land

His brother “George VI” was the second in command

A scandal for the ages is what got “Elizabeth’s” father in the chair

So the legacy of this family will continue on from there

Look at what they have been through and yet they continue to strive

They may have to do some major retooling if they want their popularity to survive

Poem 181: Time Flies

We were all longing for summer to arrive, do you remember?

Look at your calendar, it’s now the fifth of September!

It doesn’t seem so long ago when we were waiting for the first crocuses to appear

Tomorrow the children embark on another school year!

Time seems to pass so fast in the blink of an eye

The older I get, the more time appears to fly

There never seems  to be enough hours in the day

Is there any way of slowing things down or causing some delay?

Labour day already! It just doesn’t seem right

Hell, the NFL season home opener is this Thursday night

The pennant races are on because baseball is winding down

The “Battalion” will soon be playing in our local town

The leaves are still green on the majority of the trees

Soon to be changing colours and getting detached in the breeze

Just weeks from now, the NHL will get into gear

Then how much longer will it be when the first snowflakes appear?

Sorry to ramble on, I guess I was starting to get frantic

There is no reason whatsoever to get myself into a panic

I need to enjoy what is left of our warm summer and take the rest in

Welcome the coming autumn when it begins

I’m sure there are many more nice days left for us to partake

Go for some nice walks and even swim  in our lakes

I am planning to get out every day and enjoy it all

Hoping we will have a really nice fall

I’ll adjust to the changing climate like all us Canadians have to do

No matter how things progress we will all make it through

The drop in temperature at this time of year is something I like

It’s ideal weather for me to go for a ride on the bike

It’s also much better for the dog when we walk on our beat

He doesn’t have to pant so much to beat the heat

The pavement isn’t so hot on his paws as he walks about

He looks so much more handsome without his tongue hanging out

Thanks for taking the time for reading everything I said

Remember it was early spring when the clocks went  ahead

There is no way we can make up for time that we sorely lack

So find something exciting to do when we soon get our lost hour back

Poem 180: Lisa Laflamme

Being that I’m an early bird, I seldom watch any late night news

I search sites on the internet to get all the points of view

I try to make the effort of watching the six pm edition

Watching the eleven o’clock news to some, was a tradition

Once again I am going back to when there was just CBC or CTV

“Lloyd Robertson” or “Harvey Kirck” were the anchors for you to see

When you only had two national broadcasters, it was down to either or

Now with all the stations available there are so many more

This seemed to be a job for a seasoned veteran to hold

Every station anchor in Canada and America seemed to fit this mold

We all remember “Walter Cronkite” who did the news for CBS

His departing catchphrase “and that’s the way it is”

When they got this post, to all of them, it would appear

They were allowed to retain it until they called it a career

“Cronkite” was there for nineteen years before he said goodbye

“Harvey Kirck” spent twenty one years as CTV’s news guy

“Lloyd Robertson” holds the North American record and still is employed with CTV

Forty one consecutive years counting the ones at CBC

He was seventy seven when he did his final show

Still he reports on “W5”, how much longer can he go?

It finally did come time to find someone to fill his vacant space

“Lisa LafLamme was the chosen one selected to take his place

She got the word last week that her days doing the news was done

This would mean she would have an eleven year run

When matched against the men before her, it doesn’t even compare

The reason for her dismissal, the colour of her hair?

Since the beginning of the “Covid 19” crisis, she decided to let her hair go grey

Her contract hasn’t been renewed and she has been sent on her way

So “Lisa” has been ousted from “Bell Media’s network newscast

This has never happened to any of the other employees in the past

These men were given the luxury of calling their own shots

They were allowed to maintain their position now matter how old they got

Open letters accusing this company of “ageism” and “sexism” are starting to stack

“Lloyd Robertson” is defending her and says he has her back

The head of CTV news has gone on leave since issuing his decree

What will become of this? I guess it’s all wait and see

“Lisa” is not ready to call it quits and wants to continue through

As far as the network goes, I have no clue what they’ll do?

This is certainly looking like a solid case of abuse

“Lisa Laflamme” is now the major story in the news

Poem 179: North Bay Homeless

I noticed there has been a lot of talk lately about the homeless in our city

Maybe we should get a group together or at least form some kind of committee

Something that everyone could adhere to or at least be on the same page

Group all these factions together and get them to engage

I can’t understand what the attraction is here in North Bay?

Of all the cities in Ontario, why is it here that they choose to stay?

Is it always the same people that we run into every day?

Or is it just a steady flow of them passing through this way?

Being right on the Trans-Canada highway, we have a lot of traffic coming through

Some may just find this as a stopover before they decide what they want to do

No matter what direction, you can get to anywhere from here

Maybe that is why there are so many that appear

I think more of them go as far as Sudbury when they are heading west

As for the other three directions we seem to get the rest

We are just big enough to handle this particular crowd

If we were a tiny town, they wouldn’t even stick around

Area wise, North Bay has plenty of open space

Because it is so vast you can go from  place to place

Take all your belongings with you and be able to stay out of sight

Lots of locations for you to camp out overnight

We also have facilities in our vicinity to cater to all their needs

A lot of people think our city is suffering in trying to help them succeed

Methadone clinics all along Main Street to help these addicts in their plight

Most people’s choice is to help them but keep them out of sight

Storekeepers are complaining, foot traffic is at an all time low

As far as shopping in our area, it’s the last place people want to go

Perhaps with all these conveniences, these users choose to remain

There isn’t even enough railway traffic for them to catch a freight train

If everyone is avoiding them, they can simply roam free

Maybe that is why Main Street is the place they choose to be?

So there are groups in our city doing everything they can

I know they are committed and I can understand

I am not saying they are wrong, I really think they should

But what about the gangs that case the neighborhoods?

They steal anything they can to continue with their addiction

These vandals far outweigh the ones they cure of this affliction

Despite all their best efforts, this city’s reputation is going downhill

The residents are getting frustrated and most have had their fill

I am also trying to stay optimistic amidst all this aggravation

I think the main cause of most of this is our location, location, location

Poem 178: Make It Stick

So a few more pages of the “Donald Trump” saga was added to the book

Seems the FBI was issued some search warrants for them to take a look

They headed to his Mar-a-Lago residence while “Donny” was out of town

All the goodies they were looking for were apparently found

Even though he was in New York thanks to closed circuit television he got to watch it all

From what was gathered from all the news outlets they came out with quite a haul

Being a man of habit, the conspiracy theories were the first things he would spout

Followed shortly for some donations just to help him out

Another “witch hunt” was occurring is a phrase this former President likes to say

Still there hasn’t been any real consequences that he has had to pay

The count was twenty one boxes of evidence when the FBI left his place

Yet still some more charges waiting that he may have to face

Hordes of classified material was gathered by this group

Something that the “National Archives” was wanting to recoup

First time in history that a President’s residence had to be searched

Can a man who lacks any social morals claim to be besmirched?

There are so many cases against “Trump” it begins to make one sick

With all of them pending, will they finally find one that will stick?

A man that was involved in the January 6th insurrection attacked the FBI

Broke into their Cincinnati office and as a result he would die

Once again someone believed all the propaganda that was being spread

How many more of these people will eventually end up dead?

Still I’m not sure if “Trump” will ever be convicted of a crime

I think Americans don’t want to see a former “President” serving time

No matter what this man does or says there hasn’t been any repercussions for what he’s done

Still he is able to continue spouting the bullshit that he won

This conman is making their country a laughing stock and still is the “Republican’s” choice

The members of his party are so chicken that they dare not raise their voice

I can’t understand how anyone can believe anything that this man proclaims?

He is only spawning new members who have no sense of shame

“DeSantis” is the heir apparent to this conservative group?

This is like riding a rollercoaster on an endless loop

No matter who’s in charge, this party will remain the same

There seems to be no signs of improvement in their idiotic game

“Biden” pulled a fast one on them when he got some serious legislation done

Still the Republican party is claiming “Donald Trump” really won

This continues to be their credo in this upcoming midterm elections

Those who promote this myth end up being the “Republican’s” selection

So if you think that this stupidity will all end soon

This party is backing a whole new slate of buffoons

This means they have made a commitment to remain on this course

If this continues it will only make this situation go from bad to worse

Just when you think things couldn’t get more insane

If they don’t convict “Donald Trump” he will be allowed to run again

Poem 177: News Update

Saturday morning I woke up early just to beat the heat

Finished my assignment before eight and accomplished my feat

The temperature continued to rise throughout the day

Once it got into the low thirties, I was in to stay

This is now close to ninety degrees on the Fahrenheit scale

When it starts getting that warm, that’s when I have to bail

Thankfully we have the air conditioning to keep us comfortable inside

No sense sitting outside and just continue to get fried

I crawled down into the basement where it was cooler still

Watch the latest political news on youtube until I got my fill

It’s a habit I have gotten into as you are all aware

These are some of the latest tidbits that I have chosen to share

China’s leaders are miffed at the fact that “Pelosi” visited Taiwan last week

The tensions towards the Americans is continuing to peak

They now have fired air to air missiles in the straits of Taiwan

They started with this aggression after “Nancy” had gone

Looks like a move from the playbook “Putin” has used

I hope the escalation between these Asian nations is quickly diffused

Seems like Donald Trump’s appeal is beginning to lose some power

His popularity with the Republican Party is really starting to sour

They are saying the January 6th committee has enough evidence for a conviction

This in turn inside their party is causing a whole lot of friction

“Alex Jones” lost his case with the parents of the children at “Sandy Hook”

Fifty million dollars isn’t near enough of a payout from this crook

The good news is that he will probably be charged with perjury for all his lies

This isn’t the last we’ll see of this corrupt guy

Turns out his lawyers screwed up and sent a copy of his text messages to the defense lawyers side

When I saw his reaction in the court proceedings I laughed until I cried

The messages cover texts he had written for close to three years

So “Alex” may end up calling it a career

The January 6th committee has requested a copy for them to peruse

This is something that they could really use

This will hopefully make up for all the ones that Donald’s supporters have erased

This is really a godsend for their member’s and their case

“Alex Jones” could be responsible for bringing all these traitors down

Thus deposing “Donald Trump” as the biggest clown

Poem 176: Family Visit

Our oldest daughter and her family dropped in from out of town last Saturday

The plan was to stay until Tuesday afternoon and then be on their way

For the two of us residing here it was certainly a treat

Our youngest granddaughter and us would finally meet

They arrived in two cars and all stayed at our place

This meant there were now ten people occupying our space

To better suit everyone, my wife came up with a plan

We were able to make use of  our space the best way we can

So everyone had a bed for them to sleep in at night

All in all the time we had together turned out alright

We baby proofed the premises to keep the youngest children secure

We needn’t had to bother because they were safe for sure

The two of them were never out of anybody’s sight the whole time they were here

Their family kept them protected as they have throughout the years

The great grandson hadn’t seen  the dog for over a year

The baby loved the dog at first sight and never showed any fear

As for the older children, we now both seem so small

All the grandsons now tower above us all

Two of them are still growing and could gain some more

The next time we see them, they might have to duck to get in the  door

Their cousins dropped in to visit and to say hello

During the visit they had the freedom to come and go

Each night we stayed up later than the one  before

Sitting up and talking well past midnight and more

We took advantage of the opportunity to talk and reminisce

The time we spent together is something we all miss

As far as pictures and videos go, we love them very much

It is always so important that our group is able to keep in touch

It was so nice to get together and finally visit everyone

It didn’t seem near long enough before our reunion was done

The time breezed past and soon you were getting ready to be on your way

We hope the time is not so long when you come back to stay

Poem 175: Detour

Another seven days has passed and still I haven’t managed to sleep in

Shortly after daybreak is when this adventure would begin

It occurred this past Friday and it started out as a typical day

While walking the dog, I opted to go a different way

Perhaps it had something to do with the topic of last week

The trail I used to take years ago, was the one that I would seek

Instead of taking my usual left, I forged straight ahead

Advanced to Laurier Woods but took the tracks instead

This way I would avoid all the traffic and had no hill to climb

Take the crossing on Judge Avenue, therefore saving lots of time

The trail was the same, just the same as I remember it

Over ten years since I walked it and it hadn’t seemed to change a bit

The dog was enjoying the roaming running wild and free

Even though he had all that space, he was sticking pretty close to me

We continued on our way and headed for the shops

On our way to the gate but then we were forced to stop

The crossing hadn’t been cut and boxcars were filling every track

I decided just to go around them instead of walking back

It shouldn’t be a problem, just a little detour we would have to make

I pondered about climbing the cars, but it was a chance I didn’t want to take

It had to be over forty cars before I could finally get around

What was supposed to be a short cut, I was covering more ground

When I ventured on the other side, things would only get worse

Twigs and branches from the trees were blocking my intended course

I continued on my way but there was no speed in my stride

With every step I took, I had to push these branches to the side

This so called shortcut wasn’t turning out all that great

I would end up tacking on another kilometer before I finally reached the gate

We finally passed through it and headed up the street

Took a turn at the end and we were back on our usual beat

The excursion that we took turned out to be an epic fail

It may be quite a while before I venture off my usual trail

Poem 174: Hard Habit To Break

I have a problem in that I just can’t seem to sleep in

I seldom make it to seven before my day begins

I am a creature of habit and stick to a morning routine

It certainly isn’t the way that it always has been

When I was employed I worked shift work and it would alter my state

I worked every weekend and the hours were for certain not that great

Over the years I was on steady midnights, four to twelve and swing shifts as well

These varied year to year but this lasted for quite a spell

When I did get a day shift the days off were in the middle of the week

Days with weekends off was the ultimate goal that I chose to seek

This job started straight out of high school as a summer chore

I was only employed part time but I soon wanted more

The plan was after the summer to go to college and be on my way

Once I started getting forty hours, I wanted to stay

For the first time I was making real money and the pay was good

They asked me if I wanted to continue after the summer and I said I could

So what started out as a summer job turned out to be a career

I would retire halfway through my thirty sixth year

When I first started, there were six other men working with you

Over the years the shift would be covered by two

At one time there were over thirty employees who worked in this place

Each year you would look up at the seniority list hoping you moved up a space

You would wish your fellow worker good luck when he would retire

This in turn would move your name on the list just that much higher

Over the years the days shift with weekends was finally in my sights

Now at the end of this dark tunnel I was finally starting to see that light

Each year I was getting closer to the top of this group

That’s when the office and the hours went for a loop

They decided to cut off some jobs and buy out some of the employees

This is the first time in a while that I started to worry

Once the dust had settled and the changes were done

The employees on each shift would now be reduced to one

This meant for me that I would incur another delay

I continued on shift work to earn my pay

It took twenty nine years to get my day shift with weekends off and I was now in heaven

After a few months in that role, they changed the hours to start at seven

I told them they could change the hours in any way

No matter what you decide, I’m here to stay

I got up every morning before six for seven years and then called it a career

I still haven’t been able to break this habit it would appear

I have tried everything to shake it but I can’t seem to break free

All because of those last years of working seven to three

So far today I have walked the dog, ate breakfast and finished this poem of mine

That is what I’ve accomplished so far this morning and it’s only ten minutes past nine
