Poem 101: City Lockdown

I have been adhering to all the Covid 19 instructions and doing the best I can

Obeying all the protocols and sticking to their plan

I understand we should do our best to enforce the rules today

Listen to what the experts preach and try to do as they say

Now myself, I live in the Nipissing District and our cases now total one

Mayor Al of North Bay has decided to cancel all the fun

He’s closed all the skidooing, skiing, sledding and the skating too

So if the kids want to venture out, there is nothing for them to do

I think he may be a little overreacting by putting everything on hold

What the hell are kids to do when they are outside in the cold?

I mean there isn’t an overabundance of places where they can go

Give the kids a break Al, and let them play out in the snow

So the only activity to do is walking on the side street

Seeing you can’t stop to chat, you shouldn’t freeze your feet

The Covid 19 restrictions vary week to week, so try to stay on top

Because if you should break a rule, you could be fined by a local cop

So now they are saying that you should wear a double mask

So I hooked up my dog to his leash and went on our daily task

Now here I am on the sidewalk on this particular day

Heading down on the overpass while a bicycle is coming my way

The area is so narrow, there is no room for two

The pup and I hopped on the snow bank, it’s all that we could do

We definitely weren’t six feet apart when he finally squeezed by

As he peddled past us, I got a thank you from the guy

We continued down the hill and at the bottom we had to make a right

We proceeded to Memorial Drive once we crossed Judge at the light

The sidewalks there are scary and not level at all

If you aren’t careful you could slip and fall

This is the most popular site for walkers in our town

It would be much appreciated if they could somehow plane it down

There are so many people walking their dogs on this way

I run into so many others each and every day

We have people strolling there morning, noon and night

It would be nice to see some effort in getting this job right

There is over two kilometers to walk from Judge to Main

There is another feature of this route that I have to complain

The people who walk their dogs are required to clean their mess

This is another issue that all us dog walkers wish to address

Seeing that exercising out pets is the only activity we able to accomplish in this ban

It would be much appreciated if the city could supply us with more than one garbage can

I don’t know if you have had to handle a bag of crap in the freezing cold

Sometimes it can get very slippery and very hard to hold

The plastic also can get brittle and chances are it will break

Putting it in our pockets is an option one does not take

So naturally accidents are going to happen and some contents will fall to the ground

Who knows where they will end up and where they will be found?

If this continues, things could pile up for a while

Come spring, they may have another nickname for “The Golden Mile”

As far as garbage cans go, we need a  couple more

We could use them in so many other areas, is it really that big a chore?

If walking is our only sanctioned event that this City will allow

Maybe we have to make more use of the sidewalk plough

I’m watching the news from the big infected cities every single night

They show the kids outside playing while we are locked down tight

Maybe Mayor Al it’s time to take a second look and show a little pity

Of course it may not affect you at all since you don’t reside in our City
