Poem 96: Holiday

Christmas is now over and this dismal year is almost through

The Province is now in lockdown and what will you choose to do?

Will you follow all the guidelines and listen to what they say?

Or just ignore it all and treat it as just another day?

Most will stick to the protocol because they want to do all they can

Some will just continue to deny and just brush aside this ban

Those who oppose it refuse to participate in this fight

Yet they are the first ones to complain when things aren’t going right

The vaccine seems to be the only chance we got

Then you’ll have some people who’ll refuse to take the shot

This coming new year will start off worse than the year before

The cases of this virus will accumulate and soar

Christmas and New Years’ wave will peak early in the next year

Hopefully this will be its final crest before we see it disappear

I venture it won’t be until the summer before things turn around

Who knows how much longer it will be before we’re safe and sound

Because people travelled during this holiday season

The numbers will eventually increase for this very reason

Those who missed their relatives chose to make their trip

A family tradition that they just didn’t want to skip

They were thinking of their kin that they haven’t seen in a while

Wanted to visit them in person and give them all a smile

For some it was a short jaunt, others had to travel coast to coast

Those who did the journey, thought of themselves the most

Disregarding all the caution that’s there in plain sight

Hopped into their cars or booked themselves a flight

Spreading germs to one another as they went along their route

Not concerned with anyone as they went all about

Who knows how many people were infected on their travels

Wait a few more weeks and things will soon unravel

The numbers will spike again and more people will be dead

Just because all these individuals refused to stay at home instead

Still they won’t give a second thought to all of those who will perish

It’s only their own lives that these folks really choose to cherish
