Poem 87: Count Them All

Someone was smiling on Tuesday night

The man was ahead with no one in sight

You see he was winning the race and was number one

In fact early Wednesday morning he was declaring that he had won

He believed he was the champion and he couldn’t ask for more

He beamed ear to ear as he looked at his score

I guess he didn’t realize he was at the beginning of a marathon run

Declaring himself as a winner was jumping the gun

So many more ballots to be counted just didn’t seem right

His next appearance wouldn’t occur until Thursday night

He got in front of the world and pleaded his case

Throwing out so many conspiracies, a total disgrace

He wasn’t happy and wanted all the counting to come to an end

You see this President was at the beginning of a downward trend

The first votes that were counted were from the actual election day

The absentee and mail in voting was set out of the way

So his loyal followers listened to his sage advice and voted in person

That’s why what started so right would just slowly worsen

He had all he needed on Tuesday and once again broken the blue wall

But look Mr. President you have to count them all

This election is dragging out and is now in day four

I really don’t know if I can take any more

It seems like a bad habit and I just can’t seem to kick it

Imagine what it’s like for the candidates who have their name on the ticket

I know I was worried when I saw how much Trump was in the lead

I honestly thought it wouldn’t be long before Biden would concede

Now it’s Friday and things are going Joe’s way

It started last evening and it’s continuing today

They are now tabulating the votes that were once set aside

Donald sure must not be enjoying this ride

Turned on the television and couldn’t believe it was true

The States that were once red are now solid blue

Biden now has enough to win the big prize

After watching so long I’ve come to realize

Everything looks great and perhaps Trump won’t be able to defend

I’m hoping things stay the way they are until the bitter end
