Poem 81: Patience

Sitting on the front porch enjoying the weather, it’s nice and warm

Taking advantage of it while we can because it’s the calm before the storm

The leaves, you can hear them rustle because the breeze has picked up a bit

The pet dog is passed out while my wife and I just sit

The neighbour has his radio on and he’s playing some great sounds

Other than our two little groups, there is no one else around

You see we still can’t get together because that virus is still here

We have managed to keep it in check but it spiked again it would appear

So now they have raised the restrictions and the orders have been put in place

That’s why we are sitting on our terrace all alone in our safe space

Schools have started and it seems that they’re the cause of the rise

It seems that this was inevitable, it shouldn’t come as a great surprise

The task of trying to contain this is a no win situation

We have done our best to manage it all across our nation

Compared to others, Canada should be proud of how we are handling it all

We have to maintain this steady pace because we are in for a long haul

The more that we cooperate together, the more lives we will save

We have to be even more diligent if we are to beat the second wave

I know we’ve had enough of this terrible pandemic curse

The experts say that this second installment could prove even worse

This summer has been an experience that we will never forget

This plague is still looming large and is still a major threat

In just two more weeks, we have our Thanksgiving day

Will we be able to gather in groups for this is hard for me to say

For now I will cherish this beautiful day while I am still able

Sitting out close to home is the only thing that has remained stable

No matter what changes have been made to our everyday life

Sitting out here has been a refuge for me and my darling wife

No matter what they say, we can take in the fresh air and enjoy the peace

This late into the year and opportunities like these will eventually decrease

That’s why we are so thankful to have this nice day

We have been out here almost daily since the month of May

If things don’t pan out, we will all be shut ins until the early spring

That’s why each and every one of us can’t give in to this stupid thing

Don’t let it get the best of you for any reason

If you do, it might even ruin the Christmas season

The chances of having a vaccine to cure this to me is very clear

If they do come up with something it won’t be until next year

So for a recap guys, hang in there and stick with the plan

Do what is expected of you and do all that you can

This winter will probably be the longest that you will ever have to endure

Let’s all just pray to God that someone comes up with a cure

As for now, we will be sitting outside enjoying this wonderful day

Hoping that this warm cycle is here to stay

Everyone’s mental health is really what’s at stake

We are determined to stay out here for our own sake

The next season coming is winter, so these nice days are so few

Taking advantage of this mild weather is the best thing we can do

Before you know we will be freezing and covered up with snow

We will be stuck again with Covid-19 and still have no place to go

So if we stay patient and comply with each and everything

Perhaps we will get our liberty back when once again it’s spring
